Two candelabra holding tall white tapers lighted the altar and hone on baskets of white and pink gladioli and white chrysanthe mums. A white cross of gladioli and dahlias on the organ had been especially arranged by Airs. Dale Jfankin. The pews were nccoratcn with white bows and white glad ioli florets. The bride was given In marriage by her father. Her bridal guwn of white peau de soie silk had a neck line formed by a lace yoke on the bodice. Lace was appliqucd in two panels down the front and around the bottom of the skirt and the chapel train. A tiara of lace so cured her elbow-length veil. She carried a cascade of pink roses, ivy and stephanotis. The bride's attendants were clad in identical street-length gowns of pale pink crystalette designed with fitted bodices and wide necklines. They each carried a bouquet of American Beauty roses. Their pic ture hats were fashioned with pink horsehair braid with American beauty velvet ribbon bows. Airs. Edwin D. Carpenter Jr., sisler-in law of the bride, was matron of honor. The two bridesmaids were Airs. Carl Neilson and Airs. A turkey dinner was held fol lowing the festivities for the large number of guests from out of town. Other offi cers were duly installed. Coming events were discussed. There is to be a sub-district meet ing at Drain Sept. 21. This will be an all-day meeting. The study course will be on basic beliefs. The annual bazaar and luncheon will take place Nov. 30. A delightful luncheon was served by the Electa Circle, of which Airs, John R. Gage is chairman. Phil Walker and Airs. Wilfred Brickey. Local Toastmistresses Convene Tuesday Night The Roseburg Toastmistress Club met Tuesday night at t h e Umpqua Hotel for the first meet ing of the season. Colorful asters decorating a table brought out the theme. "Summer is Over." Doris Cooksey acted as toastmistress for the evening. The inspiration was given by Peggy Stark. Table topics, with Donna Golden as topirmistrcss, centered around exciting events ot the summer. Clara Rockwell spoke on duties of committees. The study of foreign countries was chosen for this year and as community service, the club would like to furnish speakers for any organization, as needed. "hack in the Saddle Again ' was the theme of the meeting and it was replete with a "Clamity Jane" (Shirley Wagner) staging a "hold up" and taking the information from Assistant Regional Supcrvis. or, Evelyn Prugh, on the requisits of staging a successful speech con test, and from former Council 8 speech contest winner, Clara Rock well, on .how to win a contest speech. "Calamity Jane" was as sisted by other members of the Winston Dillard Toastmistress group. All were attired in appro priate costumes. The dinner meeting was presid ed over by Council 8 chairman. Crystal AIcAIasters. Camas Valley President, Margaret Crouch, gave the address of welcome, and Ber nice Alothu the response. Toastmistress for the event was Donna Golden who introduced Dorothea Yantes, who spoke on "Alembership." Ima Lee Van Der mark, gave the report on the re cently held ITC convention in Los Angeles, Calif. Jean Shipman gave the report of the regional conven tion held in Tacoma, Wash. Airs. Shipman gave .each of the club representatives mementos from the convention to take to their respec tive clubs, these in turn will be exchanged by membership chair man, Mrs. Yantes when she vis its the various clubs in the coun cil, Mrs. Wagner was the evalua tor and Peggy Stark gave the closing thought. Representatives present and giv ing reports were Clara Rockwell, Roseburg; Shirley Wagner, Win-ston-Dillard; Jean Shipman, Co quille; Jean Jonas, Coos Bay; Alin Cyr, Florence; and Lucile Catchpole, Camas Valley. Winston Dillard group won the award for the best membership participation. Clem Spurlock entertained with several musical numbers. The stage of the grange hall was very cleverly decorated as a cor ral. A split rail fence, draped with a saddle, saddle blanket and a fire pit, complete wilh branding irons, added to the atmosphere.
