Rogers are the parents of Mrs.
Partin and Mrs. Lawrence. Uig

Marvin Ramsey of Grants Pass
is staying in Koseburg this week
while attending to business mat
ters. The PEO Sisterhood will spon
sor a rummage sale Saturday.
Sept. 17, at the Roseburg Wom
an's Club beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Donations are to be left at the club
house Friday afternoon.
Tom Rico, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Rice of this city, has enrolled
at the Academy of Fine Arts in
San Francisco. Tom ia well-known
here as a very promising young
artist.
Mrt. Fred Baker has returned
home after visiting her son and
daughter-in-law, Mr.and Mrs. Ray
Baker, in Myrtle Point for two
weeks. She also visited in Coos Bay
with a son, Roy Baker, and fam
ily. Mrt. Myrl Gritwold left Sunday
morning for her home in San Fran
cisco after a week here as the
guest of her son-in-law and daugh
ter. Mr. and Mrs. jonn L. uroone
She was here for the wedding of
her grandson, David Damon, to
Miss Mickey Kilkenny. Also here
for the wedding and guests at the
Brooke home were Mr. and Mrs,
Frank Brooke of Lathrop, Calif.,
brother and sister-in-law of John
Brooke. They were also guests of
the Kenneth Millers.

gene spent the weekend here as

wood. They made the trip to help
the Atwoods celebrate their 23rd
wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Lilburn Garrett
and daughters, 9, 7 and 3, have
moved from Dallas. Tex. to Rose
burg and are residing at 723 SE
Flint St. Garrett is employed by
National Plywood.
Mr. and Mrt. Billy Joe Polley
have returned home from a suc
cessful deer hunt near La Grande.
While they were away, Mrs. Ethel
Polley and Mrs. Freda Baker
cared for their three children at
Glide.
Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Perrin of
this city were in Niwport over the
weekend visiting the latter's par
ents. Mr. and Mrs. c. A. v'atson
Mrs. Perrin returned to Newport
again today to be with her mother,
who is undergoing major surgery
this week.
Mrt. George Barnett returned to
her home in San Anselmo, Calif.,
Saturday after being the overnight
guest of her brother-in-law and sis
ter, Mr. and Mrs. James Kilken
ny. Mrs. Barnett came for the
wedding of her niece, Mickey Kil
kenny. Also a guest Friday night
at the Kilkenny home was Mrs.
Kilkenny's brother, Father Glen
Schlatter of Sublimity, who per
formed the nuptial service.
Allyn Ford, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Kenneth W. Ford, who has been
spending the summer months work
ing at the plywood plant of Rose
burg Lumber Co., left Monday for
New York City to visit at the
home of Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin
Balser for a few days and then
he and the Bakers' son. Paul, will
enroll at Yale University for their
freshman years. The two boys
were graduated in June from Law
renceville Prep School in Laurence
ville, N.J. They were roomates at
prep school and will again be room
males at Yale.
Mr. and Mrt. Milton Smith and
children, Betty Lou and Milton Jr.,
of Moses Lake, Wash., have been
visiting Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Edgar Harris, near the
Roseburg speedway, and other rel
atives in this area. Mr. Smith is.
one of the two teachers in the Seventh-day
Adventist Church School
at Moses Lake. This is his second
year there as principal and teach
er. He plans to return to Walla
Walla College next near to com
plete his college work. The Smiths
were church school teachers in Ari
zona for several years.

band director here), presently in
Alexanderia, Va., where he is with
the Army, are parents of a daugh
ter born Aug. 17. The baby was
named Virginia Lee an weighed
7 pounds, 5 ounces.
The Misses Janice and Judith
McNeil and Mr. and Mrs. James
Moon, all of Portland, have re
turned home after spending the
weekend as guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Burdette Peterson. All were mem
bers of the Damon-Kilkenny wed
ding party Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. John D. Browning
and daughter, ,13-monlhs-oId, are
newcomers from Eugene and are
residing at 1286 NW Highland
Ave. Browning is employed by the
Monroe Lumber Co. of Riddle and
Mrs. Browning is working for Ump
qua Savings and Loan Association
here.
Mrs. Delbert T. Nelson and Mrs.
Ora Plummer have returned lo
their homes in Roseburg, follow
ing a trip to Sacramento, San
Francisco and other points in the
Bay area, where they visited Mr.
and Mrs. Bob Williams. Mrs. Wil
liams is the former Norma Nelson
and is a senior at San Francisco
Stale College and her husband is
a student at Church Divinity School
of the Pacific in Berkeley.
Mr. and Mrs. Esper Burghardt
of this city have received word of
the death Friday of the latter's
nephew, Sandy Wallace, 21, in An
chorage, Alaska. He was killed in
an accident while working in the
Anchorage area, lie is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Wallace of
Ancorage, formerly of this city.
Sandy attended school here, going
with his parents to Alaska when
he was in junior high school.
Mrs. Vera Washington and Mrs.
Esther Oderkirk were recently
called to Medford by the death of
their mother, Mary Pearson Mc
Crary, who died at the age of 88
following a long illness. Mrs. Mc
Crary, who has lived in Jackson
County for nearlv her entire life,
is survived by the following sons
and daughters: Glen Pearson of
Medford; Omer Pearson, Klamath
Kails; Dick Pearson, Sacramento,
Calif.; Mrs. Foster Swigert, Med
ford; and Mrs. Oderkirk and Mrs.
Washington; and 22 grandchildren
and 18 great-grandchildren.

American Bridge Teachers Assn.

conduct sessions in the point-count
Goren system of contract bridge.
Beginners classes will commence
Monday. Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in
the Gold Room of the Umpqua
Hotel. Intermediate classes will
start Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Room
312 at the hotel. Subsequent class
es will be each week and will con
tinue for eight weeks. In the Myr
tle Creek area, beginners and in
termediate classes (to be divided)
will begin Thursday, Sept. 22 at

Mrs. A. R. Greenley reports hav
ing received a letter from her
daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Betty) Hat
ton, of Ukiah, Calif., telling of the
death Tuesday, Sept. 6, of Elder
Adolph Johnson, who was pastor of
the Roseburg, Sutherlin and Myr
tle Creek Seventh-day Adventist
Churches in the early 1940's. Be
cause of health conditions, he retir
ed from active ministerial work
after his term here and went to
live in California. His widow and
their daughter, Mrs. John Penncr,
live in Ukiah. The Johnsons were
at one time neighbors of the par
ents of Mrs. A. N. Johnson of this
city, Mrs. Ellen Olson and the late
Charlie Olson, when they resided
in Minnesota. Mrs. Olson, who
makes her home here with Dr.
and Mrs. A. N. Johnson, is spend
ing the summer in Minnesota.
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Chrowl and
children, Linda, Wanda and Larry,
of La Sierra, Calif., have been visit
ing the "Bud" Essary family re
cently. Chrowl is a student at La
Sierra College, where he is pre
paring for his dental training,
which he plans to begin next fall in
the dental school of the College of
Medical Evangelists, the Seventh
day Adventist medical training cen
ter at Loma Linda, Calif., near Los
Angeles. After doing some summer
school work at the college, he and
his family spent a month in Klam
ath Falls with his parents, whde he
worked in the logging industry.
Mrs. Chrowl works in the college
store in LaSierra during the school
year. Chrowl's brother, Eugene,
also a former Roseburg resident,
who with his family also spent the
summer at Klamath Falls, is a sec
ond year dental student at the Col
lege of Medical Evangelists.

ing the summer at Newport, where
her husband is working on a con
struction job. Their children, Jill

O'Renick is a carpenter and is em
ployed by James and Stritzke.
Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Loma and
Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Tozer enjoyed
the weekend at Diamond Lake.
John Markham and his mother
have moved here from Meacham,
Ore., and are residing at 2662 NE
Stephens in Apt. 4. Markham is
employed by the U. S. Weather
Bureau here.
Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Mattmiller
and Mrs. Madge Gordon have re
turned to their homes in Seattle,
following a visit here at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Wilson.
The Wilsons and the visitors en
joyed a trip to Coos Bay to visit
Mr. and Mrs. C. McC. Johnson, be
fore they returned to Seattle
