Fair Attended Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cooeland and Carol attended the State Fair al Salem over a recent weekend. They also visited Bart and Kent Copeland who are in the theater business at Junction City, Walter Brown of Grand Coolie. Wash., a brother to Ralph and Har ley Brown of Oakland, died Mon day following a heart attack. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brown had just re turned to Oakland from a visit with the brother. Ralph Brown will return to Washington lor the tuner al. A recent guest of Mrs. Rice was Mrs. Oral Long of cenlcrville Iowa. Mrs. Long and Mrs. Rice schoolmates, had not seen each other for 52 years. Leslie Herendeen of Cottage Grove recently visited with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Dunn. Canyonville Groups To Decorate Town By VIRGINIA PROCTOR Canyonville Volunteer Firemen met recently for a special session lo insure the town's festive look this Christmas by naming a com mitlee to join a group from the local Lions' Club to light and deco rate the town during the holiday season. According to Norman Hanson, fire chief, early plans were neces sary lo get delivery on decoration and liBhl orders. George McClane was named chairman of the com mittee. The Fire Department donated $100 from its own treasury to be used in purchasing the decorations and George McClane said that he will accept any other local dona tions "up lo one-hundred dollars." Grahams Hunt Mr. and Airs. Norman Graham recently spent a week in the John Dav area huntinff deer with bow and arrow. While in that part of the stale, they visited the Charles Sharon family at Fossil. Upon re turning home, Ihcy entertained house guests Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Poyntcr. of Boise, Idaho. The Vic Oiling family are visit ins relatives at Yakima. Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Armand Lokan of Crookston, Minn., are houseguests of the D. W. Gills. Mrs. Betty Clark Is hospitalized in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Mcd ford, for an old back injury. She is reported in traction there and is expected to remain there until the injury is healed. John Richardson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Richardson, has arriv ed in Azusa, Calif., where he has enrolled for his freshman year at Azusa College. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Johnson and daughter, 12, have moved here from Coos Bay and have purchased the residence at 576 W. Chatham Drive. Johnson is employed by Evans Products. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd G. Prints and son, 3, and daughter. Ill-months old, have moved here from Port land and are residing at 160 Peach Lane. Printz is a log scaler for Columbia Log Scaling Bureau. Allyn Ford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth W. Ford of this city, left Monday for Yale University to be gin his freshman year, after spend ing the summer here at his home and working at the plywood plant of Roseburg Lumber Co. Mr. and Mrs. John H. McBee and sons, 8 and 4, and daughter, 6, have moved here from River side, Calif., and have purchased a home at 1111 SE Jackson Street. McBee is with the Roseburg City Street Maintenance Department. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Barlett, who are both commanders of District No. 5, DAV Chapters and Auxiliar ies, which include Klamath Falls, Medford, Grants Pass, Roseburg and Oakland, went to Klamath Falls over the weekend to hold a meeting of District No. 5, Disabled American Veterans. ; Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Smith, for mer residents of Roseburg, are here visiting relatives and friends. Smith was a civil service employee of the Roseburg VA Hospital until he retired and he and Mrs. Smith have spent the last year visiting relatives and friends in various parts of the United States. They have three married daughters and a son in the Air Force. Oregon Caves Combed After Rabid Bats Found PORTLAND (AP) Dr. M. A. Holmes, Oregon slate Health De partment veterinarian, was comb ing the caves of Oregon for bats. The hunt was touched off when a bat that bit a woman near Klamath Falls was found to have rabies. Dr. Giant Fisher, department epidemiologist, said Monday the report brought similar reports from others persons bitten, either by bats or other animals. Mr. and Mrs. John R. Waddell and son, 3, and daughter, 15-months-old, are newcomers here from Elgin, Ore., and are residing on Page Road at Winchester. Wad dell is logging for Roseburg Lum ber Co. Otto Langfield, who was stricken ill at work and was taken to Stan ford Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif., where major surgery was perform ed, is reported to be getting along nicely. He expects to be able lo leave the hospital the last of this month and hopes to resume his work the first of October. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Albright have left for points north on a va cation trip. They will spend a few days in Portland visiting their daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Wernsing, and will then go to Orovillc, Wash., where Mrs. Albright will remain at the home of her sister, Mrs. E. H. Peterson, and Albright will go on to Anamheim Lake, Canada, to en joy the fishing. Anna Mary Artman Miller of Sharon Springs, Kan., has left for her home following a visit here with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Lott Artman, and her brothers, Jim and Al Artman, and their families. During Mrs. Miller's stay, the family traveled to Sunnyvale, Calif., lo visit Mrs. Miller's broth er and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Artman, and a sister, Mrs. Don Solberg, and her family. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Dutton and daughter, 3, and son, 4-months-old have moved here from Tyler, Minn, i and are residing at 1642 NW Fair mont St. Dutlon is a teacher at Roseburg High School. Mr. and Mrs. James Ellis of Phil adelphia, Pa., have been vacation guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kellogg, formerly of Philadelphia but for the past three years resi dents of Roseburg. The women are sisters. The Ellises were also en tertained by Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. McCoy, the latter a cousin of the ladies. Mr. and Mrs. ' Kent Phillips and small son, Gerald, left today for their home in Corvallis, where the former will resume his studies Sept. 26 at Oregon State College and where Mrs. Phillips has an assistantship in the food depart ment at OSC. They have been here visiting their respective parents, Mr. and .Mrs. Keith Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth W. Ford. R. B. Houser, Western Auto offi cial and formerly a resident of Roseburg underwent major sur gery at Providence Hospital in Port land Sunday. Houser had been in Roseburg for a Western Auto meeting last Thursday and Friday and was stricken ill over the week end. He is a son of Mrs. A. B. Houser, now of EL Cajon, Calif., and the late A. B.
