Porter (D-Ore). said to day disarmament is '"the most pressing problem facing man kind" as he prepared to attend a Paris conference on the subject this weekend. Porter is a member of the East W e s t Preparatory Conference which will make plans for an un official meeting of lawmakers in Western Europe this fall. The congressman said such meetings are "one of the few practical ways still open to seek peace in a precarious world." Porter said he will leave Paris Sept. 12 for Eugene, Ore. This closed meeting, with about 125 expected, was sponsored bv an organization calling itself the National Conference of Citizens for Religious r reeuom. Scheduled to preside was Ihe Rev, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, New York minister and author who denied in an interview last week that his attendance meant participation in the presidential campaign.
