Uni Gas Plants Co. in Brookings, Ore., and his wife and their sons, George and Dale, will spent the weekend in Roseburg visiting the former's brother, Robert Landis, and Mrs. Landis' mother, Mrs. Constance Warner. Clarence is the son of Mrs. Edith Landis and the late Clarence V. Landis of this city. Nancy Lm Smith, 8. of Seaside, Calif., has left to return borne aft er a two-week visit here with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Abraham. Kathleen and Rebecca Byron of Tulelake, Calif., were also here to visit their grandparenss. and have now returned home. The Bvron girls also spent some time here with their aunt. Norma Mack ey, and their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. James Byron. Mr. and Mrs. John Young of Hayward, Calif., are parents of a son, David Curtis, born Aug. 16, and weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces. Grandparents of the baby are Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Young of Oakland, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Hansen of Berkelev, Calif. Great-grandmother of the baby is Mrs. A. J. Young of Roseburg. The baby joins a brother, Steve, and a sister, Elaine. Dr. and Mrs. A. N. Johnson's son, Alstrup Jr., has enrolled at Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif., to do research work in the new department of Surgical Re search. He was a student at Rose burg Junior Academy and Laurel wood Academy and took his pre medical training in Pacific Union College at Angwin, Calif., and la ter attended the College of Med ical Evangelists at Loma Linda, Calif. During his medical college days he was interested in and did a considerable amount of research work and later went to the Uni-, versity of Chicago to continue his ; medical studies and became the first West coast doctor to be ac cepted into the research depart-: ment of the university. Complet ing his work there except for his thesis, which he hopes to have ready by November, he and his family headed back for home coun try. They spent two weeks in Rose burg with Dr. Johnson's parents before going to Palo Alto to begin his new studies. Dr. and Mrs. John- son have two children. Francesca and Alstrup Nordahl III. Dr. and Mrs. Ralph F. Waddtll and daughter, Mrs. Harold (Cor-: lene) Lambeth, who is a register ed nurse, and their 12 year-old son, ' Ralph Jr., were recent visitors in Roseburg at the home of Elder and Mrs. A. P. Rili on Pitzer Street. The Waddells are on furlough from mission work in Thailand, where Dr. Waddell is superintendent of the Seventh-day Adventist Medical Institutions of the area, which in cludes the 200 bed hospital in Bang kok, where the Ritz family was stationed for 14 years Elder Ritj was a missionary minister and his wife was instructor of surgical nursing in the hospital three years as well as having had charge of the surgery departments of the two other Adventi! hospitals in the Far East. The Ritz family spent 20 years in Far Eastern Mission work. 14 of which were spent in Thailand. Mrs. Waddell, who is a registered nurse, is director of the School of Nursing in Bangkok hos pital, which graduates an average of 30 nurses per year. Mrs. Lam beth, who is traveling with her par ents to New Orleans, La., will be joined in t couple of weeks by her husband, who is completing his term of service with the Army Medical Corps in San Antonio, Tex.
