Mrs. Jack Miler, visited the Mi
lers and the Hugh Morrdls for sev
eral days recently. They have pur
chased the Jim Croff ranch and
plan to move there after the first
of the year. Oliver will retire in
December.

Mrs. Davis Leaves
Mrs. J. J. Davis of Glendale
left by plane last week to join her
husband in Virginia. They will
drive back to the West Coast, vis
iting along the way. Davis recent
ly returned from the Belgium Con
go where the couple served as
missionaries for a number of
years.
Mrs. Geoi ae Mill of Glendale en
joyed a brief visit last week from
Mr. and Mrs. Riddle of Redondo ,
Beach. Calif., old friends whom
she had not seen for 20 years.
The Riddles were en route home
from a vacation trip through the
Northwest,
Clifford Pullen has returned to
his mail route out of Glendale, aft
er an absence of three months
which were spent recuperating
from treatment for a detached ret
ina in one eye.
SERVICES CONCELED
The regular Umpqua Sunday
School sevices will not be held
this Sunday morning as the ser
vices will be held at the Douglas
County Fairgrounds at 11 a. m.,
under the sponsorship of the Ump
qua group. The Rev. E. West will
be the guest speaker, reports -Mrs.
George Munson, correspondent.
This will be his third year at
this gathering. Regular sevices
will be held at Umpqua Sept. 4.

Row Over Dog
Ends In Slaying
DOTHA.V, Ala. (AP) Two
neighbors returning from a Flori
da fishing trip got into a fight
over a dog. One was killed and
the olher charged with murder.
Sheriff Ah in Davis said an
autopsy showed Cleo Luster, 31,
choked to death on a partial den
tal plate which got jammed in
his throat, apparently during the
fight with Ernest H. Williamson,
39, Sunday night.

Crater Visitors Slapped By Bear

his resignation from the Republi
can state Central Committee ex
ecutive committee, but declined
to discuss it.
He said the first he knew of the
appointment was a letter received
that listed him among members,
and he sent a letter resigning.
Peter M. Gunnar of Salem,
GOP state chairman, also was
reluctant to discuss the matter.
