Box 2695 Jackson, Minisiippi sustained yield forest management helps insure steady Northwest jobs Under the watchful care of Weyerhaeuser foresters, our old-growth timber stands systematically are being converted into sustained yield forests. Through careful forest management, the old-growth ultimately will be replaced by tree crops in all stages of growth, from seedling to maturity. When our forests contain relatively equal amounts of timber in all age classes, they will produce a constant flow of wood, generation after generation. Every year a sufficient volume of timber to supply the needs of our manufacturing plants will reach harvestable size. Since this tim ber will be replaced by prompt reforestation, the land will be kept in a perpetual cycle of productivity. A dependable, uninterrupted source of raw material will sustain steady employment in Weyerhaeuser mills and woods operations in the years ahead. The payroll dollars and tax income from our business will, in turn, add long-range stability to the business economy of the communities in which we operate throughout Oregon and Washington. This is sustained yield forewt management It takee 80 veers for a Douglas fir to grow to merchantable site. Therefore, for every acre of timber harvested now. there must be 79 other arn with a balanced tree growth that ranges in age from 1 to 79 yeani. Working to maintain permanent forest imlimtry.
