Bride-To-Be .-u-sc, ENGAGEMENT.. ANNOUNC- ED-Mr. and Mrs. W. C. (Bill) Carr of Turlock, Calif., an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Linda, to David Bradley, of Roseburg, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Bradley of this city. Miss Carr was gra duated from Turlock Union High School in 1958 and at tended Modesto Junior College and Azusa College in Southern California. She plans to con tinue her education this fall. The bridegroom-elect was gra duated from Roseburg High School and attended Azusa College for two years and will attend California Polytechnical College in San Luis Obispo this fall, where he will major in education. ENGAGED- The engagement of Wilda Caye Gilbert of Sac ramento, Calif., and formerly of this city, daughter of Mrs. Dorothy Frye of Roseburg and Ray Gilbert of Sacramento, and Larry LaR.oque, of Sacramen to, also formerly of Roseburg, son of Margorie LaRoque of Roseburg and James LaRoque of Anderson, Calif., has been announced. Both the bride elect and bridegroom-elect were graduated from Roseburg High School, Larry is now working for Aerojet General Corp. No date has been set for the wedding. Murray of Salem, formerly of this city, who spent the week here as a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Rich mond, and sons. The bridge play followed the regular weekly luncheon meeting of t h e club members. Episcopal Vicar To Be Welcomed A receDlion to welcome the new vicar of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in sutnenin, tne Rev. John Welch, with Mrs. Welch and their two daughters will be given by the Women's Guild of the church Aug. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. The reception will be held at the home ol Mrs. Antonia u. Hansen at 5th and Cypress Streets in Oak land. Father Welch will take up resid ence in Sutherlin Aug. 12. In addi tion to his duties as vicar he will also act as assistant to St. George's Church in Roseburg. HIRST arrived Thursday from Barneis, England, to spend a couple of months visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Franks at their home on the North Umpqua. He was a neighbor of Mrs. Franks' fam ily while living in Canada. Af ter World War II, he went back to England to live. He came by ship, Empress of Eng land, to Montreal, then by train to Vancouver, B.C., and on to Portland. He visited here about 1 2 years ago. Nurses Honored At Lovely Affair A most enjoyable potluck dinner was held on the patio at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Keel on Court Avenue by the nurses of the VA Hospital in honor of Mrs. Cath erine Lamb, formerly Catherine Faucett, who is retiring after 35 years of service with the admin istration. She was formerly chief nurse at the Roseburg VA Hospi tal, and to honor Mrs. Helen John son, who has retired after many years of service and who was ncad nurse of the surgical-medical floor. Lovely gifts were presented to Wedding At Reno Event Of Aug. 6 Mr. and Mrs. Life Edson of Glen dale announce the marriage of their daughter, Kay Narelle, and Gerald Lynn Troxel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Troxel. The cere mony took place at Rose Chapel in Reno Saturday, Aug. b. Mr. and Mrs. Edson accompanied the young couple and acted as wit nesses. The bride wore a blue faile street-length dress with while ac cessories. The bride has been a Glendale resident all her life and his been a student at Glendale High School. During the afternoon plans were discussed for furthering the club's local program for the visually handicapped. The club also aids in supporting and cooper ates with the state auxiliary proj ects which are the Institute for Parents of Visually Handicapped Pro-school Children and the Wal ter R. Dry Professional Develop ment Fund. The main project this year will be the sponsoring of a local can endar and date hook listing all lo cal service clubs, their meeting dates and special annual functions.
