Jim Smith gave up three hits as
the Kosebuig White Sox downed

In the fourth inning Roseburg
came up with another run. Wilh

Livingston's second double of the

be handled as the sun was in the

the final league games of the sea
son. The games against Ashland
will start at 1 p.m. Saturday. If
one team wins both games of Ihe
doubleheader it will win the league

Ixcal television viewers will get
to see Oregon Slate's football team
on Iheir screens Oct. 29.
Oregon State and California will
play at Multnomah stadium, wilh
the game being televised on a re
gional network. This will be one
of the four televised games involv
ing teams of the Big 5 Conference.
Thomas J. Hamilton, AAWU Ex
ecutive Director, announced this
fall's NCAA football telecasts re
cently. Hamilton said that four of
the five teams from the Big 5 will
be seen on television this year

Saturday at Legion Field.
Arlan Foote was on the mound
inr the Roseburg team in its last
outing. Foote went the distance for
the win giving up three hits and
slnking out 13 Corvallis batsmen,
mixture of fast balls and sharp
breaking curves proved to be very
effective for Foote

mates had built up a comfortable
lead Foote relaxed on the mound
and coasted to the victory.
Jump Into Early Lead
The Lockwood Motors team
jumped into an early lead by scor
ing three runs in the first inning.
With one out Jim Jarvis reached
j first on a single. Tom Hatfield
walked to send Jarvis to second
hit into a nome run.
The Corvallis Elks came up with
one run in the fourth inning. Rog
er Cox walked as the lead off bat
ter. Cox stole second and went to
third on an error. Ron Botts walk
ed to load the bases, and toote
hit Tommy Roth to walk the first
run across.
With two men out in the bottom
of the fourth frame Roseburg came
up with three singles to score two
runs. Ron Lake singled and went
to second when he saw no one was
covering the base. Foote singled
to score Lake and Marv French
followed wilh a single which sent
Foote to third. Foote crossed the
plate as the result of a wild pitch.
Roseburg Scores In Fifth
Two more runs were added by
Roseburg in the fifth inning after
Corvallis had scored a single run
in the top of the inning. Corval
lis' run came on a walk by Ray
Hardenburger and a single by Cox.
Hatfield led off for Roseburg
with a single and Walt Edmonds
followed with a free pass in the
single and Hiney reached base on
single and Hiney rached base on
a fielder's choice. Ron Lake sin
gled and advanced as far as third
base, but ended the inning strand
ed on second.
This came about when Foote hit
a ground ball with Hiney on sec
ond and Lake on first. Hiney
rounded third and headed for the
plate and the throw in trapped
him. Meanwhile, Lake moved to
third while Ihe play -was being
made and when Iliney got past
the third baseman Lake returned
to second.
The play continued with Lake
trapped between second and third
when the Corvallis second baseman
decided to play on Foote between
first and second. On the play Hin
ey decided lo try to cross the
plale again and was thrown out.
Lake and Foote remained at sec
ond and first.
Roseburg added its final four
runs in Ihe sixth inning. Jarvis
drew a walk and Tom Hobbs dou
bled to left field. Jim Beamer
rached first on an error and Ed
monds followed with a double to
drive in two runs. Edmonds ad
vanced to third on a ground out
and scored when Lake connected
for his third single of the game.

two runs on two hits, a walk and
one Roseburg error. Tom Guss
had the big blow of the inning as
he connected for a triple to right
field to drive in one run.
Lake, Jarvis and Hatfield each
had a perfect night at the plate.
Jarvis and Hatfield each had two
hits in two times at bat while Lake
had three singles in three trips
to the plate. Coplin and Edmonds
each had two RBI's to lead Rose
burg in that department.
Season Record Of 32-9
Saturday's game ended the 1960
season for the Lockwood Motors
squad. Roseburg ended the year
with a record of 32 wins and nine
losses, a record which makes them
one of the top Legion teams in the
state even though the boys did
not reach the playoffs.
The only remaining contest for
the Legion players is a donkey
baseball game to be held at Le
gion Field August 6. The Donkey
action will see the boys who will
be playing Legion ball next year
against the players who will be
loo old.

Atkinson Enters
Oregon Tourney
Rogue Valley Country Club's
Southern Oregon Golf Tournament
picked up some added prestige this
week for its 1960 competition when
entries of Bob Atkinson and Mrs.
Tom Harrison were received.-
Atkinson last June won the Ore
gon Golf Association match play
tourney. A three-times winner of
the Southern Oregoa, in 1951, 1952
and 1955, Atkinson plays out of
the Portland Golf Club.
Mrs. Harrison was runner-up
earlier this season for the Pacific
Northwest amateur crown. M r s.
Harrison's club is Waverly of Port
land. The 32nd annual tourney on the
Medford course is scheduled Aug
ust 31 through September 5. Ap
proximately 150 entries are now
on hand. Deadline for entries is
August 24.
