HALSEY (AP)-State police at
Albany today charged two men
with the armtd robbery of the
Halsey branch of the Bank of
Lebanon.
Leo Eldon Harris, 19, and
Charles Lee Loraine. 37. both
prison parolees, were charged
with taking $17,000 from the bank
Thursday afternoon.
Both men have denied taking
part in the theft, police said.
Police reported that a man
armed with a pistol took the mon
ey, taped up customers and em
ployes of the bank and then fled.

from the bank while being chased
by two passersby.
The man then got into a car with
a second man, and the two drove
to the Alford Cemetery, south of
here, police said.
Mike Sides, 17, of Albany,
chased the men in his car and
probably forced them to turn off

Harris and Loraine were picked

Harris is a parolee from the
Oregon State Penitentiary, who
was sent up from Umatilla County
on a rape charge. Loraine is a
parolee from San Quentin Prison
in California.
Police said the two men had
lived together in Walla W alia,
Wash., before coming to Oregon.
Loraine claimed that it was a j
coincidence that he and Harris 1
were in Halsey at the same time, i
police reported. They said Loraine
claimed that Harris had forced
him to drive to the cemetery.
School Plans Move
PORTLAND (AP) St. Helens
Hall, an Episcopal grade school
and high school for girls, has an
nounced it will move to a 31 acre
site in the suburban Raleigh Hills
district.
The present site is being taken
over by the state Highway De
partment for the proposed Foot
hills Freeway.

OLYMPIA (AP) Former la-'
bor leader Dave Beck charged
Thursday that the state supreme I
court violated the stale constitu
tion and its own rules last month
when for the second time it af
firmed Beck's grand larceny con- j
viction. !
The charge was made in a mo-;
tion asking the high court to va-!
cate its order of affermance and ;
explain why it had the right to
sustain a criminal conviction when
it was divided 4 to 4. A hearing
will be held on the motion Sept. 16.
Becks attorneys claimed that in
affirming its earlier decision, the
supreme court rendered a decision
without having a constitutuional
majority in favor of it and failed
to state reasons for doing so.
The motion was the latest move
in Beck's efforts to overturn his
King county conviction of grand
larceny.
The former teamster president
was convicted, of appropriating for
his own use $1,900 of teamster
union money obtained from the
sale of a 1952 union automobile.
