Thurs., July 14, I960 Mystery Writer Kin Strangled LOS ANGEI.KS (AP)-The coed daughter of a screenwriter who wrote the scripts for the movies "Act of Murder" and "The Prowl er" was strangled to death on City College campus here. Police found the body of Nina Thoeren, 19, a pretty brunette, after answering a call from a neighbor who said ( woman was screaming. They arrested Raymond W. Clemmons, 35, as he was climb ing into his car and booked him on suspicion of murder. Police Lt. C. W. Crumly said Clemmons admitted strangling the girl but insisted he did not rape her. Clemmons, who has a record dating back to 194-1, including three arrests on charges of crim inal assault, told polito he first aw the girl walking on a street some distance from the campus. "I offered her a ride and she finally accepted," he said. Arriving at the girl's room near the school, he said, he made ad vances and Miss Thoeren leaped from the car. lie said he followed her and grabbed her. The attack occurred only a few doors from the apartment where Miss Thoeren roomed, Maurice Kronmcl, her landlord, said she was a summer student who worked nights at a book shop, j Kronmel said the girl's parents are dead. Her father was the late film writer, Robert T. Thoeren, Boeing Gets Large Research Contract SEATTLE (AP) - A 247 million dollar contract for research and development of the solid-fuel Mi nuteman ballistic missile was signed here Tuesday by the Air Force and Boeing Airplane Co. The contract, extending through 39G1, covers work under way here and a flight test program sched uled oon at Patrick Air Korce Base, Fla. It involves only the fixed-base phase of Minulcman development, A similar contract for the mo-bile-Minuleman program will bo drawn in a few months, Brig. Gen. Don Coupland said. As head of the Air Force ballistic missile center at Los Angeles he was here for the contract signing with Boeing, the Minulcman assembly end test contractor. The mobile plan involves keep ing special Minuteman trains con stantly on the move armed with the nuclear-tipped missiles to pro vide instant retaliation against enemy attack on fixed bases. The Minuteman is scheduled to become operational in imd-19t2 from the nation's first base near Great Falls, Mont.
