SPOKANE"(AP) Cone-attack- !

Norman E.' Johnson Centralia,
a Weyerhaeuser Co. entomologist,
disclosed a possible new way of
fighting the forest pest in an ad
dress to the Pacific. Entomological
Society Wednesday.,
Rugs have got smart and devel-1
dped resistance to once highly
effective insecticides, he said. j
There is also a best, or optimum, j
time for the insect to launch his ,
destructive attack on the cones,
he continued. .
So insect scientists are experi
menting with growth regulators, to
upset the cones', growing cycle, he
explained. It might put the insects
off schedule and off their feed.
The society's 44th annual three
day meeting wound up Thursday.
