UEEgSfi state imiwd JUN24U96G Bonneville Power Pact Execution Delay Asked WASHINGTON (AP)-Secretary of' the Interior Fred Seaton was asked by the Senate Interior Com mittee Tuesday to delay execution of- a contract under which the Bonneville Power Administration would sell electrical energy ' to Pacific Gas and Electric Co. The committee urged by resolu tibn that the contract he held up pending completion of a final re port on an engineering study of a proposed power transmission in tertie between California and the Pacific Northwest. CASSEROLE COMBINATION Another last minute casserole from pantry-shelf supplies this green bean-chicken combination. Drain a can of flavorful green beans and combine with canned chicken a la King, adding a touch of white dinner wine for elegance. Turn into baking dish, top with packaged refrigerator biscuits and sprinkle with mixed herbs and Parmesan cheese. Bake in hot oven until sauce is bubbly 'and biscuits are browned. 6009 MACARONI PUDDING 1 The Spanish havs an interesting way of making a macaroni pud ding with eggs. First make a well flavored tomato sauce: A short-cut way to saute a large sliced onion in; 2 or 3 tablespoons of olive oil until onion is soft, then add a fam ily size (IS oz.) can of tomato sauce or a l-ld. can ot peeled to matoes and summer until the sauce is smooth and thickened; season to taste wun sail, pepper or herbs. Meantime, cook16 pound elbow macaroni; blend cooked macaro ni with tomato sauce Beat sep arately yolks and whites of 4 eggs; add Vi teaspoon salt and blend together. In 2-quart casserole ar range layers of macaroni and sauce with beaten eggs; top dish with ,14 cup grated Parmesan cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 min utes. Makes 6 servings. EASY BARBECUE SAUCE Barbecue sauces need not be complicated. Here is an especial ly good one for chicken: Brush cut-up chicken with a mixture of 2 tablespoons soy sauce, n cup ol ive oil, a crushed garlic clove and a teaspoon of coney or mapie blended svruD. Salt is not necessary (the soy sauce provides it) but add salt to your taste if you prefer. Brush chicken frequently with the mix ture as it erills over the char coal. Chicken takes on completely different flavor and olive oil keeps the meat juicy and succulent. BEAN SNACK Cold beans make a delectable snack prepared the Mediterran ean way. Soak any type of dried beans overnight, cook until tend er and drain thoroughly. Add a thinly-sliced onion, plenty of fresh- ly-grouna DiacK pepper, a teaspoon of salt and Vi cup olive oil. Chill. Serve cold with beer, iced white wine or any other favorite drink. To turn into a flavorful dip, force mixture that has marinated 24 hours throuh a sieve or mash in a blender. Breakfast Cooler! Cool off with a refreshing breakfast of fresh raspberries and bananas atop ready-to-eat oat cereal served with chilled milk, banana flake bread, with milk or coffee for beverage. Ore. 9 Celebrate June Dairy Month With A Banana Milk Shake The Chinese celebrated their new year as the Year of the Dog, which seems somewhat exotic to us Americans. But we are now en- gated in celebrating the month 3 teaspoons bakhig powder i teaspoon saic , y cup sugar 1 egg, beaten . Vt cup melted fat cup milk I " Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Combine egg, fat, milk, bananas, and vanilla; add to dry ingredients and stir just until well mixed. Blend in nuts and cereal flakes. Turn into greased loaf pan, 9x5x3 inches. Bake in moderate oven (350 F) until done, about"50 minutes. Cool on rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan. Yield:! loaf. . , 1 teaspoon vanilla Vi cup chopped nuts, optional 1 cup whole wheat flakes or corn Hakes ARTICHOKES IN OLIVE OIL Fresh ortichokes make their own dressing when cooked this classic way: trim the chokes by slicing off top and Vt inch of stem. Place in kettle with 1 cup each olive il and water, 4 lemon, 1 or 2 cut garlic cloves and.l teaspoon salt. Boil until artichokes re tender, about 30iminutes. Drain by placing upside down on rack. Cook down sauce until thickened, tnen cool to room temperature. Serve cold. When vou buv olive oil. keep it stored in the same container in which you bought it; whether met al or glass, advises the Olive Oil Institute. It is important to keep the container covered, or stop up the opening in a metal can with a wad of paper towel, for the oil must be kept clean. It is impur ities, such as dust from the air which cause olive oil to grow rancid. Refrigeration is not neces sary. HOT PEACH COBBLER Drain a large can of peach halves and reserve the juice. Ar range peaches in a glass bakmg dish., Pour, a little melted butter over the peach halves and the juice and rind of an orange. To the neach iuice add 3 . table spoons raspberry jam, and 1 table spoon cornstarcn. mix weu ana pour over peaches. Arrange one package of refrigerated biscuits on top and dust with 3 tablespoons light brown sugar. Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 400 degrees. One of the most ingenious . milk drinks to make is a banana milk shake. The banana is mashed with a fork or beater until it becomes of liquid consistency, and to this "liquid banana," the milk is added. There you are with a delicious, fresh Danana-iiavoied muk drink, as simply as that. Since the cow is famous for tak ing things easy, why not toast it Salad Sauce', Toss shredded cabbage with mix ture of mayonnaise and tomato chili sauce. ' Make a fancy dessert with a lit tle imagination and packaged but terscotch pudding mix. Prepare pudding or pie mix according to directions, wnue warm stir in vi cup, chopped fresh dates, a spoon ful of brown sugar and few drops maple flavoring. Cool .slightly and spoon into graham cracker p i e shell. Top with toasted coconut and chill well before cutting. this month with a banana milk shake which lets you take things easy? Banna Milk Shake 1 fully ripe banana 1 cup (8 ounces) cold milk Peel banana. Slice into a bowl and beat with a rotary egg beater or electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Add milk; mix well Serve Raspberry Sauc ' cup water 2 cups fresh raspberries, mashed Vi cup sugar 1V4 teaspoons corn starch 1 tablespoon cold water Bring water to a boil. Add rasp berries and sugar. Mix thoroughly. Dissolve corn starch in 1 table spoon water. Add to mixture. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring con stantly, until mixture thickens and fruit blends completely. Chill Serve. Yield: 8 servings. , immediately. Yields 1 large or i medium-sized drinks. Banana Chocolate Milk Shake: Add 1 tablespoon chocolate sirup before mixing milk shake. , SAUCE FOR FISH Freshly caught fisb need little flattery with garnishes, but this buttery-good sauce makes a whale of a complementary touch. For 3-4 servings: Blend V4 cup (1 stick) softened butter with 2 tablespoons instant minced onion, 1 tablespoon prepared mustard, Vi teaspoon nutmeg and V teaspoon garlic salt. Spread generously over 1 to 14 pounds of boned fish. Wrap indi vidual servings in .heavy duty aluminum foil, sealing edges tight ly. Place on grill over hot coals for 10-15 minutes. Open foil pack ages and brush melted butter onto frankfurter buns. Toast quickly on grill. Serve fish Inside buttered toasted buns. .
