USA retired, died Thursday of pneu monia at Walter Reed Army Hos pital. In 1898, a year out of West Point, Connor campaigned in the Philippines during the filipino in surrection. He served in France during World War I. From 1932-38, his last active duty assignment, he was superintendent of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, N. Y. Yoncalla Family Takes Vacation By MRS. GEORGE EDES Mr. and Mrs. Lee Blickenstaff and daughter, Nancy, of Yoncalla recently spent several days va cationing and visiting relatives in Colorado. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dodd Sr., who spent the winter in Arizona, have arrived in Yoncalla to spend the summer.1 They plan to return to Arizona in the Fall. Fred Reeves is visiting relatives and friends in Centralia. Wash Charles Coneland. who has spent the past three years with the Army in Germany, is now home. HELENS (AP) - Marv Owens of St. Helens, who won the Democratic nomination for Congress from the . 1st District without campaigning, has started a tour of the district. Owens, who is 24 years old, was unable to campaign in the May 20 primary election because he was in the Army and could not get leave. He now is on furlough. He said he will be discharged in August. Owens beat Steve Anderson, 45, a Salem attorney, in the Demo cratic primary. Owens saia An derson will be his campaign chairman in Marion County. Owens' opponent in the Novo bcr general election will be Ren. Walter Norblad, a Republican who has served in Congress for 14 years. Bogus Money Find Leads To Equipment SEATTLE (AP) Seizure of $5,360 in bogus money in San Diego, Calif., led to confiscation of counterfeiting equipment in a Seattle home, Secret Service agents reported Thursday. Prescott H. Manning, special agent in charge ot ine beattie Dis trict, said agents seized a print ing press, paper, counterfeit plates and proofs of bogus $5, $10 and $20 bills. The enuioment. he said, was found in the basement of the home of Dale . Wyman, 36. VVyman and William K. Osborne 39, also of Seattle, were being held in Tijuana, Mexico, on charges of passing four counter feit bills at a bar there. Treasury agents said they ques tioned the men and learned of the cache of counterfeit monev hid den aboard the University of Cal- uornia researcn vessel, Argo. The Argo arrived recently in San Diego after undergoing an overhaul in Seattle. An assistant U. S, attorney in San Diego said Wyman admitted printing the counterfeit bills in Seattle several months ago before signing on as a crewmember aboard the Argo. Manning said proofs of the counterfeit bills showed they "could easily deceive the ordinary money handler." He said none of tho bills had been passed in Se attle. A U. S. complaint was issued only against Wyman. Manning saia tne case would be held in abeyance here, pending further ac tion by U. S. and Mexican offi cials. More Spudf, Lets Other Vegetable Predicted CORVALLIS (AP) Oregon State College said in a report Friday the fresh market vege table outlook is for more potatoes and smaller supplies of molt outer vegetables. Stephen C. Marks, extension af- ricultural economist, said in a summary that in general, late spring potato producing states will nave' a 15 per cent larger supply than in 1959. The first forecast of the early summer po tato crop Indicates a 2 per cent increase. For the early summer, the to mato harvest will be about 20 per cent less than last year, sweet corn 12 per cent less, carrots 6 per cent down and cantaloupes! with the June 10 assault of a Rose 12 per cent behind last year.
