From Cottage Grove Visit

David and Marjone Collins have
returned to their home in Dixon
ville after spending the past two
weeks in Cottage Grove, where
they visited their aunt, Mrs. Rus
sel Sibley. Their cousins, Christy
and Pamela Sibley, accompanied
them back for a vacation.
Mr, and Mrs. Dick Swanson and
children spent a recent weekend
in Portland and vicinity visiting
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Arthur. While
there they saw the Rose Parade.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Karcher drove
to Reedsport over a recent week
end, where they were visitors of
the Bud Karcher family.
Mather Visits
Mrs. Myrtle Wright of Houser is
a guest in the home of her son

Reorganization Protest
SALEM (AP)-The Oregon Cat

tions protested against a
reorganization in the animal in
dustry branch of the state De
partment of Agriculture.
The change, ordered by the
state agriculture director, James
F. Short, removes the disease
control and meat inspection pro
grams from the Division of Ani
mal Industry in the department,
and places them directly under
Short.
Cecil Edwards, Prineville, exe
cutive director of the Oregon Cat
tlemen's Assn., said the change
ignores the wishes of the livestock
industry.
California, Florida People
Visit Garden Valley Family

Myron P. Jones from Ventura.
Calif., and daughter, Leslie Jones,
who has been attending college at
Santa Barbara, Calif., and Mr. and
Mrs. Leslie Marshal of Ft. Pierce,
Fla., have been visiting Mr. and
Mrs. Marshal Jones and children
of Garden Valley.
Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Tinker vis
visited their son, Terry Lee, at
the Shriners Hospital in roruana
recently. They report that the pin
will be removed from Terry Lee's
hip this week but he will be con
fined to the hospital for four or
five weeKs.
Parents Visited
Carl and Jewel Schmidt stopped
in Garden Valley on their way to
Raymond, Wash., to visit with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Schmidt, and sister, Mrs Robert
Fielding. They have been attend
ing a training school of the Cali
fornia Evangelistic Church at Long
Beach, Calif. They will be pastors

At a recent meeting of the Past
Matrons of the Glendale OES, of
ficers were elected for the coming
year.
Those elected were Mrs. Velma
Edson, president; Mrs. Jean Gae
decke, vice president; and Mrs.
Ida Edson, secretary - treasurer.
The group also practiced for the
installation of officers.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Evans and
family including his daughter and
son-in-law and family of Wilming
ton, Calif., visted with the for
mer's nephew, L. M. Shepherd, of
Glendale last week. The Shepherds
of a church at Raymond.
Mr. and Mrs. John Denton and
son, Robert, are expected to ar
rive in Garden Valley this week.
They have sold their home in Jupi
ter, Fla., and will establish a
home here. They will be joining
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R.
Denton, and a brother, Frank Den
ton, who already have homes in
the valley.
David Denton, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Denton, went to Dia
mond Lake with his grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Denton for a
weekend of fishing recently.
Youth Returns
Don Doyle has returned home
from Southern Oregon College at
Ashland to be with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Millard Doyle.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Pruitt
and children of Tulelake, Califor
nia were here to take her mother,
Mrs. Jennie Potvin, home with
them. Mrs. Potvin has been visit
ing friends in the Roseburg area
since late May.
Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Pon attended
a class reunion of her class in
Eureka, Calif., recently.

Annual Officer Election

Ion chapter of Eastern Star, new
officers were elected.

Knypstra, associate matron; Bon

Mrs. Dick Willey, conductress;
Mrs. Harold Albro, associate con
ductress; Mrs. Henry Beckley, sec
retary; and Mrs. Clyde Rydell,
treasurer.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crisman en
tertained the Elkton Lions Club
board meeting at their home re
cently with 14 members present.
During the business meeting it was
voted to assist the Rebekah Lodge
in sponsoring the queen and prin
cesses for the Drain Fair. They
also voted to help purchase uni
firms for the Little League ball
players.
Mother Visited
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crisman spent
a recent weekend in Salem at the
home of Mrs. Crisman's mother,
Mrs. Ethel Miller.
Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Henderer,
Mr. and Mrs. Wade Henderer and
family and Mrs. Dick Willey all
attended the graduation of Mike
Slagle at the Corvallis Senior High
School recently. They also enjoyed
a family dinner as guests of Mrs.
Bernie Slagle at the Chinese Tea

State Armory Board
SALEM (AP)-The state Mili
tary Department has created a
state Armory Board, which will
supervise all National Guard ar
mories in Oregon. It will replace
39 local armory boards.

a recent weekend. She was one
of the bridesmaids at Judy Fur
long's wedding held recently.
Bobby Dixon of Seattle, Wash.,
has arrived in Elkton by bus to
pay an extended visit at his grand
mother's, Mrs. Agnes Johnson.
Mr. and Mrs. Ransom Hudson
of Taft, Calif., were recent week
end guests at the Martin Suloff and
Agnes Hudson homes.
Charles Henderer returned home
last week from his studies at Ore
gon State College in Corvallis. He
left Mondav for Brookings with
Elaine Whitfield who returned from
Ashland where she has been at
tending Southern Oregon College.
They both have summer jobs in
Brookings.
Mr. and Mrs. John Pugh left
last week for Corvallis where John
received his masters degree from
Oregon State College. They plan to
spend the summer with John's
mother in Couer d'Alene, Idaho, at
a summer resort.
Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Bossen and
family of Estacada spent a recent
weekend at the parental T. J. An
drews home. Ronnie McCall and
John Binder returned to Estacada
for an extended visit with the Bos
sen family.

Passenger's Hint
Delays Air Liner
SPOKANE (AP)-A Northwest
Airlines plane was delayed for
about an hour and a half early
Wednesday while FBI agents and
local police made a thorough
search, checking on a passenger's
hint he had a bomb aboard.
Airline officials said a passen
ger created a disturbance on
flight 536 between Portland and
Spokane late Tuesday night and
indicated he had a bomb aboard.
When the four-engined plane land
ed at Spokane International Air
port it was parked on a ramp
away from the terminal while
officers made their search.
The plane resumed its schedule
after no explosive were found.
FBI agents questioned the pas
senger and U. S. Attorney Dale M.
ureen said lie was studying the
case to determine if prosecution
is warranted. The man was re
leased and reappeared at the air
port later Wednesday, where he
was refused passage on another
Northwest flight.

Portland air compressor operator

dustrial Accident Commission to
day when the state Supreme
Court held that her husband died
of a heart attack caused by exer
tion on his job.
Mrs. Bennie C. Olson filed the
suit after the commission denied
benefits. The commission said he
had symptoms of the attack be
fore starting to work, and that the
death was not connected to the
job.
The Supreme Court pointed out
that the workmen's compensation
law was amended in 1957 by set
ting aside the previous rule that
the injury must be accidental. The
court said the new law provides
that any workman who unexpect
edly is injured is covered by the
law, regardless of whether the
cause of the injury was accident
al. . .
The decision concluded that Ol
son s work contributed to the
heart attack.
The decision, by Justice Wil
liam C. Perry, affirmed circuit
judge Paul R. Harris of Multno-
man county.
