Communities Have Time To Alter Census Count PORTLAND (AP) Oregon communities have a little time to correct things if they are unhappy with tho census figures, the League of Oregon Cities said Mon day, i If cities are displeased with the count, they can start "were you counted?" campaigns, the league said. The Federal Census Bureau then will correct things if discrep ancies are found. The state Census Board also will make new surveys upon request, the league said. Census figures can be important to towns, for the more people there are, the bigger some appro priations will be from federal and state governments, Nadine Spotted MANILA (AP) Manila's weather bureau issued a warning to Pacific shipping today on tropi cal storm Nadine and its 65-mile-an-hour center winds. The ttorm was last spotted 600 miles north east of the Philippines' northern tip, moving northeastward at 12 miles an hour. Former Camas Valley Teacher, Family Moves To Portland Area By MRS. WILLIAM BANKS Mr. and Mrs. Donald Weims have moved from Camas Valley to the Portland area. Weims had been a teacher in the Camas Val ley School for the past year, oc cupying the Dwight Pope home. The Pope home will be occupied by the Warren Brenner family. Brenner is the newly appointed school superintendent. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ashenber ner spent several days at the home of Mrs. Ashenberner's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Moore, recently. Robert Thrush has returned to his clajses at Oregon State Col lege at Corvallis following a re cent weekend spent at the home of his family, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Thrush. Jones Family Moves Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Jones and family have moved into the Bill Schmidt rental on Burma Road. Jones is a teacher in the Camas Valley High School. Kirkendall Now Home led Kirkendall is home for a few days following a series of treatments for the arm operation he underwent recently in Portland. He will return for further treat ment in the near future. Lyle Ice is in Portland as the Camas Vallev Methodist Church delegate to the State 'Methodist Church Conference. . Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Jones recently were for mer residents, Mr. and Mrs. Dean McFall and Mr. and Mrs. R. E McFall. The Jones's son. Glenn, a stu dent of the University of Oregon in Eugene spent a recent weekend with his parents. Accompaning uenn was JCern Ulson, also a stu dent at the University. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton McCann and two children, Dennis and Kathy, of Albany spent the Me mortal Day weekend visiting at the homes of his sisters and fam ilies, Mrs. John Looney and Mrs. ueraia Looney. Vatican Seeks Solution To Japan Birth Enigma VATICAN CITY (AP) L'Os servatore Romano hat appealed to less crowded nations to help Japan ease its population problem by means other than the "collec tive homicide" of birth control. The Vatican newspaper sug gested Japanese be given wider opportunities for emigration and greater possibilities for work. The newspaper carried a summary of Japan's population probem and efforts to meet it. "Millions of lives are destroyed in sperm or are impeded from existing through contraceptive measures and the legal practice of abortion on the widest scale," the paper said editorially. "The responsibility for this erave violation of natural laws falls morally upon those countries of the West which by their doc trines or their examples were the promoters of this (birth control) policy which today extends widely through the Orient, even in India, and also among some Western countries even if on a lesser scale. Stratosphere Balloon Nears End Of Flight BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) A 500 foot diameter balloon today ap proached the end of a three-day flight into the stratosphere to gather information about cosmic rays. The huge balloon, described as the world's largest, is expected to complete its journey at 3:30 p.m. when it will drop a para chute containing nuclear emulsion films used to record the cosmic rays. The information obtained will be studied by scientists of 13 nations. The balloon was over Biloxi Miss., Monday night moving west ward at a speed of 10 miles per hour at an altitude of about 114, 000 feet.
