Annual Rebekah District
Convention Takes Place
Hawaii was Hie theme of the 54th
annual Rebekah district convention
held in Canyonvillo recently with
Bertha Rebekah Lodge ns host.
There were 105 Rebekahs welcom
ed by hostess members altircd in
mumus and presenting lcis, an
orchid for the hair, and a pine
apple badge. The Hawaiian motif
was carried out in the clever dec
orations, including palm trees
waying at the cntranco in the
rain.
Tho host lodge surrendered their
chairs at 11 a.m. to convention of
ficers, who were also attired in
Hawaiian mumus. Emma Burgin,
chairman, and a former resident
of Hawaii, was escorted by her
daughter, Carol Seasons of Hawaii,
who gave her a beautiful orchid lei
flown there especially for tho oc
casion from Hawaii.
State presidents and grand offi
cers introduced included Lorctta
Emerson, president of the Rebekah
Assembly of Oregon; Cleonna Ap
plcgatc, vice- president; Bartra
Baglcy, marshal; Helen Wright,
treasurer emeritus; Mary Barker,
past president of the Rebekah As
sembly and IARA finance mem
ber; Mary Weaver, grand high
Jiriestcss, ladies encampment aux
liary; Elvida Preston, state good
of the order chairman, and depu
ties from lodges in the district.
Gifts of rosewood corsages and
beautiful earrings were presented
to the honored guests. -
Alico Terry of Canyonvillo gave
the address of welcome with Alice
Bonnie ot Sutherlin responding.

Kindergarten Programs
Tlielma Fleshman, chaplain, gave
the invocation and Elvida, rrcs
ton sang a Hawaiian solo.
Bertha Lodgo presented a rose
wood corsage and earrings to the
president. Two gins attired in na
waiian nativo costumes, paid trib
uto to past district chairmen in
eluding:-Bessie Hermann, Frances
llcddcn, Bennetta Pickett, Lena
Poole, Mary Barker, Vclma Her
man, Mary Kummcr, Cccile Bay
and Alta Aspey. Orchids were pre
sented to thorn. With Maude Church
ns soloist, Sutherlin Lodge exem
plified removing the drape from
tho charter. Committees were ap
pointed and reports were given on
resolutions, thanks, press and
memorials.
A skit was presented by the host
lodge entitled, "A Day in a Doc
tor's Office." A Hawaiian luau was
served nt noon at tables decorated
with fruits and flowers and an or
chid at each cover.
Sally Hilt presented her Polyne
sian dancers at the afternoon ses
sion. Carol Seasons, a former stu
dent, explained the dances and
musical numbers presented.
Umpqua Lodge, Elkton, gave I
beautiful memorial service. Lena
Poole sang, "The Lord's Prayer."
The president, assisted by state of
ficers, conducted a very instruc
tive work shop and each class
chairman made a report on prob
lems solved. Sutherlin lodge was
named for tho 1961 convention and
Hoseburg No. 41 for 1962.

Monday the children visited the library and Wed
nesday and Thursday afternoons they visited the
Melrose Dairy and were guests at treats there.
Twenty-six children, bedecked in graduation caps,
received their "Bachelor of Rhymes Degree" May
27, at which time a gift from the group was pre
sented to the teacher, Mrs. Otis Roley, who is'

Wednesday Luncheon Is
Enjoyed By Drain Club
Mrs. Lloyd Haney was hostess
for the Drain Civic Club at its
Wednesday meeting. A potluck
luncheon was followed by the meet
ing during which the club decided
to present a $100 scholarship to a
graduating senior of Drain High
School.
Maggie Horton of Glenwood,
Idaho, houscgucst of tho hostess,
was introduced to the club.

Blanche Merrill told of their recent
trip to California.
The next meeting will be a pic
nic June 8 at the Drain Park for
members and their families.

Be Held Saturday Night
The Willing Workers Club of
Scotls Valley will be host at a
potluck dinner and card party to
be held at Victor Hall Saturday
evening, June 11, at 6 p.m. A short
program will be given and a hand
pieced quilt drawing will take
place. A door prize will be given.
Cards will be played following the

Lilac Circle 49, Neighbors of
Woodcraft, held a special meeting
Monday at the Rosburg Woman's
Club where officers for the coming
term were installed at an impres

Springfield and Cottage Grove.
