a speed of about 1,500 miles per

CAN DETECT AGGRESSOR The Agena satellite vehicle
launched in the second Project Midas flight is hoisted to
top of gantry to be mated with, the booster, an Air Force
Atlas ICBM. Project Midas is designed to give the U. S.
a military satellite system capable of detecting the launch
of an aggresor ballistic missile seconds after it leaves the
launch pad. The shoot was made at Cape Canaveral.
FORCE OF WAVE A row of parking meters Ore bent
almost. to the street from -the force of the tidal wave that
struck Hilo, Hawaii. The waves that struck the islands and
the coast of Japan were generated by a series of earth
quakes that 'have caused widespread damage in Chile.

5th Titan Missile
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP)
The Air Force today fired its
Titan intercontinental-range mis
sile on a fifth straight successful
5,000-mile flight.
The US-foot rocket rose smooth
ly from this missile test center at
12:20 p. m. Fifteen minutes later,

tives. This missile originally was set
to provide the first lest for the
missile detection ability of Amer
ica s Midas II "spy" satellite.
However, the Air Force report.

tronic ' splash net olf Ascension
Island In the South Atlantic.
The "net" consists of six widely-scattered
sound receivers to
record the impact of the cone ns

will determine the accuracy tt
