House Group Sets Brakes
On Nuclear Plane Project

dollar project to develop a nuclear
airplane. i

public works appropriation bill
President Eisenhower's request
for 73 million dollar! to develop
a reactor to power the proposed j
plane. J

ever, that its action does not
end the nuclear plane proem m

It recalled "the very irregular
history" of the project dating bark

the state of American culture that
Gene Kelly has to go to Parts to
stage a jazz ballet based on
George Gershwin's "Concerto in
V."

native art was underscored this
week during Kelly's whirlwind
visit to the.se shores. The actor-hoofer-director

To do so, Kelly took a three-day
interruption in his teaching
French ballet artists how to dance
jazz style. He has been com
missioned by the Paris opera to
create the Gershwin ballet, and
the old place may never be the

issue, declaring that we are he
hind all other major countries in
developing our own culture.

Solons Approve
Farm Money Bill
WASHINGTON (AP) An election-year
farm money hill carry
ing nearly five billion dollars for
federal farm programs was ap
proved Friday by Ihe Senale Ap
propriations conimitlee.
The committee boosted scores
of items over totals previously
voted by the House to provide a
total of $4,0110,222.683 for regular
and special farm programs. It did
not reduce any items approved by
the House.
Sen. Richard B. Russell (D-Ga)
manager of the big annual farm
bill, said this total includes some
62 million dollars of increases
above House figures hut still 'is
135 million under President hisen
hower's budget recommendations
of 665 million below amounts
voted by Congress last year.
Russell's figures did not include
some 417 million dollars of loans
for bringing electric power and
telephones to rural areas and aid
ing low income farmers.
The Senate eommitlee said 140
million dollars additional could he
used for these loans if required.
On top of those appropriations
and loans is $.169,670,000 of "perm
anent authorizations" which are
available without annual congres
sional approval. Most of this
comes from earmarking of duties
on farm imports.

head type doors have been instal
led on the firehouse.
The new doors were installed for
the purpose of reducing time in

equipment has been secured and
