Currier OR 2-1900 Mrs. Matie Heller, Glendale old timer, was the surprised recipient of the Folger Coffee Question Man's prize, a Westinghouse roast er, when he visited Glendale briefly last week. Mrs. Heller, 82, could scarcely believe the news when W. L. (Suds) Sutherlin, wearing the huge red and yellow "Question Man" button, made the presenta tion. She had always considered herself unlucky in contests and give-aways. Mrs. Heller has been a resident of Glendale for 57 years, coming here in 1903. She is a widow and has two children, Mrs. Murrie.l Karger of Eureka, Calif., who ar rived Thursday for a visit over Mother's Day, and John Allen Hel ler of Empire. Mrs. Heller has been . Glendale city treasurer since 1950. She is a member of both the Eastern Star and Rebckah lodges and has held high offices in each. The OES lodge, of which she has been a member for the past 38 years, honored her two years ago for having been their secre tary for a period of 31 years. In a way, Mrs. Heller has become a symbol in the Eastern Star Lodge. They named their social club the George Tipp, Newberry Manager, Transferred George E. Tipp, manager of the J. J. Newberry store in Roseburg, has received official notice that he will be transferred to San Francis co. He is to report at his new as signment May 23. Tipp will be replaced here by R. E. McNealy. McNealy has fol lowed Tipp to two new assign ments. The latter was manager at the Rapid City, S. Dak., store when transferred to Roseburg, and he was replaced there by McNealy. That was two years ago in March. The new manager is expected to arrive in Roseburg Monday. Matie Club. They regularly cele brate Matie night at the meeting closest to her birthday, April 20. While she may never have won prizes before, she does get birth day gifts. On Matie Night this year she was crowned "Queen For A Night." Mrs. Heller was born in a little town called, Embarrass, Minn.; but she's never embarrassed for lack of friends, apparently, or sur prises either. The Question Man, "Suds" Suth erlin, is a native of Douglas Coun ty, by the way. His grandfather was the early days landholder who built the town of Sutherlin. Hospital News Round Prairie Lumber Building New Dry Kiln Round Prairie Lumber Co. has started construction of a fourth dry kiln at its plant southeast of Dillard. According to Gene Krewson, one of the owners, it will be possible In Mt-v n tn 9 OOO (WMl h-rH. ?"! of lumber a month with the new kiln, which is expected to be in operation within another CO days. The company dries most of its lumber now, but the additional kiln will make it possible to pro cess green lumber faster during periods of heavier demand. Missing Marion Family Returns SALEM (AP) A missing Ma rion County family turned up not to be missing at all. Mr. and Mrs. Wester L. Rhoades and their four children arrived at their home just as sher iff's deputies were launching an investigation into . their where abouts. A neighbor, Mrs. Amelia Feller, called the Marion County sheriff's office late Wednesday night to re port the family had not been seen since last Friday. Their home, in the Broadacres district north of Woodburn, was inlact and only bedding was miss ing. Sheriff's deputies said the Rhoades told him that they started out to visit friends at Boring last Friday, then decided to go fishing in the Bend area. Later they changed their minds and headed on a camping junket to Redding, Calif. Deputies said, Airs. Rhoades was taken ill and hospitalized at Klamath Falls. Milk Production Shows Increase WASHINGTON (AP)-Milk pro duction is running about one per cent ahead of a year ago. The Agricultural .Marketing Service said Thursday production during the first four monlhs of this year totaled 41,700.000.000 pounds or about one-half billion pounds more than in the like per iod last year. Considered relative to popula tion, April production was at the rate of 2 1 pounds daily per capita about the same as in April last year but B per cent below the 1949-58 April average.
