Communist Party Seen Effective Politically SEATTLE (AP) Resurgence BEWARE Of MI1AT10HS LOOK FOR THf HAPPY Unit DOG TOPS IN QUALITY! LOW IN PRICE of the Communist Parly as an ef fective political force in the United States has been foreseen b y Benjamin F. Davis, national secretary, on his first visit here in H years. "The Communist Party is re building its ' relationships with trade unions and the Negro peo ple," he said. "Nationally it has between 8.000 and 10.000 mem bers. It has a bright future." Davis was met by Burt Nelson, former longshoreman and state Communist Party chairman, and Paul Emerson, editor ot the Northwest bureau of The Peoples' World. He will take part in a Communist observance of May Day here Friday night. Nelson declined to discuss the numerical strength of the party here but raid "we are growing. . . it's easier to talk to people and there is growing resistance to the state's adverse lax structure." Davis, a former New York City councilman, served a five year federal prison term and was re leased in 1955. He is still under indictment on a charge o mem bership in the party. Edson will be teaching in Heeds port during the coming school year. Mrs. Frances Strand has been commuting to Roseburg most of this month, where she is on jury duty. Clarence Dietrich has entered the Forest Glen Hospital in Can- yonville, where he will undergo medical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Johnson visited with his uncle, F.mil John son, and wife at Williams recent ly. The older man suffered a stroke shortly betore Easter. Mr. and Mrs. John Strode of Azalea enjoyed a brief visit from his daughter. Mrs. Don Faulkner of Siletz recently. Mrs. Falkner was en route to a state PTA con vention in Medford. Moschkaus Fish Mr. and Mrs. August Moschkau and family fished at Squaw Lake over a recent weekend. They re ported good luck. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Phillips and family of Burney. Calif., recenlly visited Mr. and Mrs. Sam Phil lips of Glendale. The two men are brothers and had not seen each other for eight years. While the Jim Phillips family was here, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jackson and family of North Bend drove over for a visit. Al Mohr, Glendale justice of the peace, plans to attend a traffic court conference in Eugene over the weekend.
