SAN FRANCISCO (AP) The
British are walking all over the
United Slates.
Two snappy-striding sergeants
Marled U Tuesday, on a 3,032-mile
hike from Ban Francisco lo isew
York.
Today Dr. Barbara Moore, 5S,
the Russian born wife of a British
sculptor, follows 'em down, the
pike, or rather up U.S. 40.
"And I'll pass them, too," she
says.
The reporters and photogra
phers who met Dr. Moore at San
Francisco airport Tuesday night
had few doubts the sturdy vege
tarian would do it.
She was wearing a bright red
wool suit and a red kerchief when

"I want people to be able lo
recognize me," she explained.
She put on her black sweatsuit
and red leather jacket for photo
graphers. "My hiking outfit," she said. She
pointed to her shoes. "I'm anxious
lo get these off and start walking."
"Barefoot?" asked a newsman.
"Oh, no," said Dr. Moore, "I
have 13 pairs of walking shoes."
She was indignant there was no
one but newsmen and photogra
phers to meet her.
She said the Hotel Corp, of Amer
ica promised to furnish a truck
lo accompany her on the trans
continental hike.

munity Park in Winston Sunday
morning at 6 a.m.
The service is under the au
spices of the Winston Christian
Church and the Dillard - Winston
Methodist Church.' Youth from the
two churches will take part in the
service, led by the Christian Youth
Fellowship President Leona Shep
herd and the Methodist Youth Fel
lowship President Jerry Justis.
The Community Park is located
on the east side of Winston, ad
jacent to the Community Club
house. Oakland Club Meets
The Ladies Bible Class of Oak
land Community Presbyterian
Church met recently at the home
of Mrs. Mildred Burpee.
Mrs. Esther Pealer led devo
tions and read Luke 14. Mrs. Mary
Lee led the study in Psalms. The
May meeting will be a potluck at
the church, according to corre
spondent Mrs. Edith Dunn.
Club Books Game Man
A representative of the stale
Game Commission will attend the
April 25 meeting of the Azalea Rod
and Gun Club to describe trout
planting activities in streams of the
Umpqua River system. A wildlife
film also is on the program.

for a walk across Australia in June
and for a walk from Miami, Flor
ida to Toronto in August."
Sutherlin Altar
Society Meets
The April meeting of the Altar
Society of St. Francis Xavier Cath
olic Church of Sutherlin was held
recently in the parish house.
Fourteen members discussed
plans for the annual turkey and
ham dinner which will be served to
the public May 1 at the Sutherlin
Community Building. Serving will
be noon to 4 p.m.
A report of the baked goods sale
held recently was given by Mrs.
Ed Hounshell. As a fund-raising
project, members of the society
are selling tins of candy, with pro
ceeds to be used to buy carpeting
for the sanctuary of the new
church.
Next meeting of the society will
be Thursday, May 5, according to
correspondent Barbara Liesinger.
Youth To Have Breakfast
The Presbyterian Senior High
Westminster Fellowship of Rose
burg will attend Easter Sunrise
Services at the Fairgrounds and
convene afterwards at the church
social room for breakfast.

Mr. and Sirs. Fisher visited Mr.
and Mrs. Emerv Skinner at Vale
and the Rev. Phil Ryan and fam
ily at John Day. The Ryans for
merly lived at Elkton.
Kellogg Grange will meet Wed
nesday evening. Gail Carnine will
show pictures of the On-to-Oregon
Cavalcade, for which he was se
curity officer last summer.
A swimming parly has been plan
ned for the high school class of the
Elkton Christian Church and the
intermediate class in Reedsport
