Students, Defend Teacher Ousted For Views On Sex

ogy professor ousted for his frank,
public views on sex.

protest float in the university's
annual spring carnival this week
end. A campus-wide demonstration
was called by some students for
Monday. One group of 200 aroused
students drafted a resolution de
manding public apologies for the
dismissal from University Presi
dent David Dodds Henry, already
hanged in effigy, and Dean l.yle
H. Lanier of the College of Liber
al Arts and Sciences.
The flurry of activity was trig
gered by Henry's announcement
Thursday that Asst. Prof. Leo F.
Koch, 44, would be relieved of his
duties a& the end of the spring
term.
The action, said Henry, result
ed from Koch's letter In the
March .19 issue of the Daily lllini,
the student-run newspaper, advo
cating "mutually satisfactory"
premarital sexual relations as a
step toward happier and longer
lasting marriages.

granted a divorce here from h i s
wife, Diana, eldest daughter of
Sir Winston Churchill. She did not
contest the suit, brought on the
ground of desertion in November
1956.
The Sandvs were wed in 1935.
They have a son, 23, and two
daughters, 21 and 16.
Sandys is 52, Mrs. Sandys, 50.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) The
state unemployment commission
er says a worker ran complain
about the boss, but shouldn't over
do it.

The salesman had been em
ployed by a company for less than
two months when he and His em
ployer had a disagreement over
gasoline mileage and other
expenses.
The commissioner said the
salesman, in making his rounds,
mentioned the dispute to his cus
tomers and mad other remarks
about the company. The salesman
was firede
"The position of a salesman on
a route is often a confidential po
sition of much delicacy," Arcudi
said.
"Therefore, salesman is under
an obligation to conduct himself
in a manner which will not de
stroy the intangible relationship
between customers and his em
ploying company."
The first balloon tires were in
troduced on U. S. cars in 1922.
Last year the tire and tube in
dustry increased its investment in
daily newspaper advertising by
11.7 per cent over the previous
year.
