Kaycee Gets Trowbridge
KANSAS CITY (AP) -The Kan
as City Athletics have purchased
righthander Bob Trowbridge from
the Milwaukee Braves in an at
tempt to improve their weak

Trowbridge has a 1210 record
for part of two seasons and all
of the past two campaigns wilh
the National League Braves. Last
season, he pitched 30 innings, won
one and lost none. His earned run
average, however, was a fat 6.

One Moscow store advertises
shoes for 253 rubles. The basic
wage of factory workmen is about
800 rubles a month, so one pair
of shoes whould take a third of a
worker's monthly pay.
Soviet production has not begun
to match foreign production of con
sumer goods, either in quality or
quantity. An increasing number of
people are becoming aware of it.

CHICAGO (AP) The Chicaao
Tribune said a syndicate headed
bv Bill Veeck will offer lo buy
Chuck Comiskey's 46 per cent of
the Chicago White Sox today.
Comiskey reportedly met Mon
day with Arthur C. Allyn Jr., son
of a Veeck syndicate memner,
and requested that any such offer
be put in writing. The Tribune
said Allyn, also in the syndicate,
agreed.

Court Upholds
Hoff a Guides
WASHINGTON (AP)-James
Hoffa, Teamsters Union president,
failed today in his effort lo get
free from court appointed moni
tors by appealing to the Supreme
Court.
The high court refused to re
view lower courl orders which bar
the Teamsters Union from holding
a convention, and keep in author
ity a three-man board of monitors,
appointed by U.S. Judge F. Dick
inson Letts in January 1958, to
clean up the union.
The monitors were appointed
under a consent decree which set
tled a suit by a rank-and-file
group of union members who had
sought to bar Hoffa from taking
office as president. The suit con
tended his election was rigged.
In the appeal to the Supreme
Court, the Teamsters Union con
tended the consent decree pro
vided for a convention any lime
after one year. The monitors said
obstructive tactics by Hoffa pre
vented them from preparing the
union for a clean convention and
election. Letts held conditions jus
tified delaying the convention and
he was upheld by the U.S. Court
of Appeals here.
