Lookingglass Couples Visit
Relatives In Sacramento

Mr. and Mrs. John Rudzik and
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ogle drove
to Sacramento over the weekend
to visit Mrs. Caroline George, who
is the mother of Mrs. Rudzik and
Mrs. Ogle, and to visit their sister,
Mrs. Martin Kartchner, and fam
ily. Mr. and Mrs. Rudzik have re
ceived word of the birth o( a
daughter, Kimberly Kay, to their
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Billie Rudzik, at Corvallis
March 30. Rudzik is a. junior at
Oregon State College. This is their
first child.

Citizens Blast
Aid 'Giveaway'
WASHINGTON (AP)-A citizens
group told Congress that there is
a "giveaway philosophy" in
foreign aid which encourages
waste, extravagance and corrup
tion at home and abroad.
It criticized military aid on the
grounds that "if war comes there
is a strong possibility that to sur
vive, many of our allies will elect
neutrality lest they be in
cinerated." The volley of criticism came
from the Citizens Foreign Aid
Committee in testimony to the
House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Spokesmen for the group were
its chairman, Walter Harnisch
fcger, president of the Harnisch
feger Corp., Milwaukee; and its
national director, retired army
Brig. Gen. Bonner Fellers, Wash
ington. The group, which says it is not
isolationist, earlier had asked that
foreign aid be cut in half now and
abolished in three years.
The Foreign Affairs Committee
is hearing testimony on President
F.isenhower's $3,930,000,000 foreign
aid program.
The group had argued before
that North Atlantic Treaty Or
ganization forces are not an ef
fective war deterrent.
Fellers said "excessive expendi
tures for conventional weapons
meaning the Army and the sur
face fleet which cannot be deci
sive against the enemy, our ex
tension of aid to doubtful allies
who can be blackmailed into neu
trality lest they be inoinerated,
and the global diffusion of our ef
fort are all a waste of means
which could spell our doom."

with the Coast Guard. He is being
transferred to the central states.
They are visiting the former's sis
ter, Mrs. John Kudzik, and family
before proceeding to their new as
signment. The couple will take
their trailer house, which has been
set up at the Rudziks for the past
year and in which Mrs. Ogle made
her home during much of that
time, having recently gone to Al
aska for a visit.
Mrs. C. E. Nay has returned
from a week's visit In Seattle with
her . daughter, Mrs. Leslie Hong,
and son, Ned.
An unusual visitor in Looking
glass last week was a wild swan,
which made its home in the stor
age pond on the Rudzik ranch.
Mrs. F.ugenia Swan has left for
Wolf Creek to visit her cousin,
Mrs. Dollie Bogue.
A roof fire at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. John Rudzik made con
siderable headway before being de
tected last week. Some passers-by
noted the flames and gave the
alarm. Neighbors were summoned
and the blaze extinguished before
extensive damage was caused. It
is estimated about $60 will cover
cost of repairs.
Budget Not I960
Issue, Morton Says
WASHINGTON (AP) The new
Republican national chairman pre
dicts budget balancing will not be
a major issue in the 1960 presi
dential election.
But the chairman, Sen. Thurs
ton B. Morton (R-Ky), added that
inflation, "if we let it get out of
hand, would be an issue.
Morton said on a television pro
gram that he does not expect
the budget for fiscal 1960 to be
balanced. But he said unemploy
ment, the farm program and for
eign policy will emerge as the
main issues in 1960.
Morion, predicting the Republi
cans would win the presidency,
said Vice President Richard M.
Nixon and Gov. Nelson Rockefel
ler of New York would battle for
the GOP nomination. The chair
man also said Adlal Stevenson
would win the Democratic nomi
nation for a third time if the Dem
ocrats become deadlocked at their
convention.
