Thi. conception i. not altogether true, a. the term "farm," as ap plied to trees, dm', not necessarily imply that the trees must be es tablished by planting but rather that they are grown as a crop, by the application of various for estry principles. As a matter of fact, tree farm ers usually rely heavily upon cer tain methods of rutting that in duce natural reseeding to establish their new stand, of tree.. Nevertheless, when natural methods fail or ire not applicable, tree farmers are among the first to plant. So it is with the follow ing people. TO BEGIN WITH, we have I number of farmers ind rancher. this season who have planted trees. Here are a few of them. Mildred Kanipe of Oakland, has ordered 10.000 Douglas firs and is in the process of planting them on her sheep ranch. Harold Crouch, whose ranch lies southwest of Sutherlin, has planted 10.01)0 trees to supplement hi. farming and ranching business. Mrs. M. I. Bourgoyne of Kiddle Is continuing with her reforesta tion started a year ago, which will eventually involve at least 50 acres. Arthur Web of Tenmile ha. near ly completed hi. ground prepara tion fur the machine planting of some 40.000 Douglas fir. to be planted in March. Peoplo in all walks of life plant trees. Hoss Myers, a Roseburg ma son contractor, is an example of a non-farmer who sees a future in planting trees. He and Burl Oar, the man with the magnificent auburn beard, have planted 20, 000 trees on Ross' cutover land near Tenmile. IN ADDITION to planting differ ent species, such as Douglas fir. ponderosa pine, Austrian pine and grand fir, Ross has done a little experimenting as well. He has planted great numbers with fertil izer pellets and has tried several brands of root hormones to see if he ran improve survival on his more difficult sites.
