Gertrude Hess, chairman of the home economics club, planned the dinner. The tobies were decorated with spring flowers. Mrs. Mor boret McCord ployed organ music during the dinner. Bar--boro Wockerborth presented the program featuring the "Evergreen Valley -Chorus-ettes" ond with a millinery showing "Hats of the Future," pictured obove. Below is one of the scenes from the skit. Funds received from the affair will he applied to the purchase of 4 H summer school scholarships which are given to hoys and girls who are outstand ing in their 4-H work. The giving of these achotarships is one of the yearly projects of the organization. After the evening of games Mrs. Bigler served delicious refresh ments. Past Matrons And Patrons Honored - Boseburg Chapter I, Order of Eastern Star, celebrated Past Ma trons and Patroni Night Thursday-! evening. Nell Cooper, worthy ma tron, and Leland Bloom, worthy patron, presided. The chapter room was beauti fully decorated with a lily pond, with daffodils and pussy willows to complete the arrangement. Thirty past matrons and patrons attended. An addendum was pre sented. The honored members were escorted to the reflection pool where a candle was lighted for each one and all were presented with gifts. Nelle Motschenbacher. past ma tron, and Peter Motschenbacher, past patron, came dressed in cos tumes over inn yeara old. They presented a very interesting and unexpected addition to the eve ning's program. A gift was presented to the worthy matron on behalf of the chapter. Following the meeting, amor gasbord refreshments were served in the dining room. MR. AND MRS. MACK HUGHES 4831 N. Stephens, celebroted their 55th wedding onniversory Saturday, Jon. 31, at a 3 p.m. dinner and family reunion. Present for the occosion were their son ond daughter-m-low, Mr. ond Mrs. L. G. Hughes, ond children, Janice ond Ricky, ot Salem ond their son ond daughter-in-1 aw, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hughes of Roseburg. A grondson, Clair, wos unoble to attend since he is presently serving with the armed forces in Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes were morried Jon. 31 at Lebanon, Mo. They came to lowo in 1922 ond to Roseburg in 1948. Mr. Hughes, who will be 74 Morch 19, owned barbershops in Iowa and Missouri. After coming to Roseburg, the couple bought Winchester Home Sites ond built five houses, one of which is occupied by Homer Hughes. Mrs. Hughes wos 73 Jan. 25. Girls 4-H Group Has Social Meet Thursday The Snappy Sewers 4-H groim held its monthly meeting at the home of their leader Thursday aft er school. After the roll call, re freshments were served. Main item for discussion were plans for 4-H Week. Members present were Glor ia Doty, Orpha Rutan, Rose Trot ter. Carol Holcomb. Susan Eng dahl and Janet Weikum. Saturday the Snappy Sewers in vited Mrs. Larson's 4-H cooking group to a skating party after which the girls went to Mrs. Lar son's home for the refreshments which the cooking clasa had pre pared. Dixonville Woman Hostess At Luncheon Mrs. Roberta Kesler of Dixon ville was hostess at a lunrheon Monday honoring Mrs. Nancy Ho gan of Portland. Riddle PTA Observes Founders Day Thursday In a meeting held Thursday, tha Riddle PTA commemorated their 11th Founder's Day with a program honoring the 12 past presidents and 7 teachers in the Riddle schools who have taught 20 years. Three of the past presidents present were Mrs. B. H. Mann, Mrs. Larrv Mimnaugh and Mrs. Elmer Mitch ell. The teachers were Waneta Wal- I lace, Florence Helms, Elizabeth I Roderique, Eva Tavlor. Following a short honeymoon. the young people are now at home A very interesting piano recital was given Monday evening by pu pils of Miss Gladys Strong at her home on SE Main Street. The group wai a very talented one, var ying in advancement from begin ner! playing for the first time, to advanced students. The pupils play ed well, showing developing mu sicianship and artistic ideals. Fa miles and friends were invited to the recital.
