Navajo Indians Spurn
Union Organisation
WINDOW ROCK, Aril. im The
Navajo tribal council has moved
to halt union organization efforts
an. i the Navajos.
The council Tuesday unanimous
ly approved a modified "right-to-work
law forbidding employers to
discriminate against union mem
bers or nonmembers.
The tribal leaders said they will
not permit union membership so
licitation on the reservation for the
time being.
The council said it acted because
the Navajo lacks the educational
attainment to understand complex
union affairs and could be exploit
ed. The Navajo reservation, largest
In the nation, has a population of
more than 83,000 and an estimated
work force of 8,000 to 10,000. The
reservation has 600 producing oil
wells, a large sawmill, several
mines and processing mills.
'Faked Limp Exposure
Reveals Money In Shoe
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Police
discovered Tom Pandy's limp was
caused by a lump of money in
his shoe.
They noticed that Pandy, 67, ap
peared straight and chipper each
morning.
But as the day wore on, he
limped more and more.
Friday afternoon, two police
men asked Pandy to bare his feet
They found about $50 in bills
and corns in his socks.
Charged with making book on
horse races, Pandy pleaded:
"Im a cook. I only make book

antiaircraft installations can be
flown to trouble spots around the
world, the Army says.

She is busy, successful, smart and

"And I've 'never been lonelier
in my life," says she. "Besides
that, I worry about my daughter.
I feel inadequate when she has
problems. 1 keep thinking that her
lather should be there to help
make decisions, and to advise
her."
