MR. AND MRS. JAMES GILLETTE of Norfolk, Neb., have been quests this week of
Mr. and Mrs. John Kort in the Oak Hill apartments. They spent several days in Port
land enjoying the Rose Festival and were met there for the weekend by Mr. and
Mrs. Kort, who brought them to Roseburg. This weekend the Korts will take them to
Eastern Oregon to visit Mrs. Kort's sister, after which the visitors will leave for San
Francisco, Los Angeles and Tucson, Ariz., where they will visit a daughter. They are cou
sins of Mrs. Kort. This was their first trip to Oregon and they reported they were great

A charming bridal shower was
given for Darlene I.amoureaux by
her sisters, Jlrs. Wayne Schmidt
and Mrs. Vernon Tracy, her moth
er; Mrs. Charles Barrackman, and
classmates. Kathy Fretwcll and
Carol Lindbloom. The shower was
held at the First Christian Church
Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Lutheran Laymen's League
of the St. John's Lutheran Church
held a picnic Sunday at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Paul I'rbcn on
their ranch at Lmpnua. A potluck
dinner was served at 1 p.m.

at the First Presbyterian Church, the home church
of Miss Maxine Sue Abbott, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Curtis Abbott, of Roseburg, and Richarcf
Gordon Dow, Radioman 2C, who is stationed in
the U. S. Navy ot Tacoma. Following a honey-

moon to the Oregon ooast, Mr. and Mrs. Dow
will reside at the navy officers quarters in Tacoma.

Miss Maxine Sue Abbott, recent
ly of Roseburg, now of Olalla, be
came the bride of Richard Gordon
Dow Saturday, June 14, at the
First Presbyterian Church, the
Rev. John E. Adams officiating at
the 2:30 p.m. double ring ceremony
in the presence of 100 friends and
relatives.
A white trellis arch laced with
myrtle leaves and delicate pink
roses formed the background for
the ceremony. The arch was flank
ed by floor baskets of white calla
lilies and maidenhair and woodard
ia fern. White satin bows centered
with pink tulle and small while
blossoms marked the pews which
were accented by white velvet
ropes. Large white candles were
used around the sanctuary in front
of the stained glass windows. A
floor bouquet of Madonna lilies
graced the entrance to the sanctu-
ry. I he marble-topped tame in
the narthex was attractive with a
large arrangement of pink rhodo
dendron effectively arranged in a
tall footed milk glass bowl. Roses
and rhododendrons were also used
in other bouquets around the sanc
tuary. Kirk N. Wirick sang "1 Love You
Truly" before the ceremony and
"The Lord's Prayer" as a benedic
tion as the bridal pair knelt on a
white satin cushion. He was ac
companied by Mrs. Homer Grow,
organist, who also played the tra
ditional Mendelssohn and Wagner
wedding music.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, was beautiful in her
wedding gown of Alencon lace,
styled with a full court train, long
sleeves coming to points at the
wrists and a tulle yoke with a
small round collar of Alencon lace.
The bodice was accented with
small satin-covered buttons from
the neckline to the waist. Her fin
gertip veil of illusion fell from a
cap of seed pearls, lace and se
quins. She carried a cascade bou
quet of white gladioli with a small
white bride's Bible with the cou
ple's names engraved in gold. For
something old, the bride wore a
treasured antique gold lapel watch
which was brought from Bohemia
and had been worn by many fam
ilv brides. It was loaned by Mrs.
John Novak of Mcdford, cousin of
the bride's mother.
Mrs. Donald Abbott, sister-ln
law of the bride, was matron of
honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Gail
Tibbett of Grants Pass, cousin of
the bride, and Miss Sharon Mad
sen. The bridesmaids' dresses were
full-skirted, of pink eyelet nylon,
fashioned with cummerbund waist
line. The matron of honor wore an
identically-styled dress in laven
der. All carried colonial nosegays
of white carnations.
Candlelighters Miss Raina Lynn
and Miss Sherril! Chapman wore
identical pink nylon dotted swiss
dresses fashioned with pink chif
fon cummerbund and back over
skirt ending in a harem hemline.
They wore pink velvet hair bands
and carried slim pink tapers cen
tered in a nosegay arrangement of
small lavender flowers and pink
tulle.
Ginger Barnes was flower girl.
She wore a full-skirted frock of
lavender dotted swiss and carried
pink rose petals in a tiny basket
edged in white tulle and lilies of
the valley with touches of lavender
satin on the handle. A band of
pink flowers was worn in her hair.
Carl Woodward, the bride
groom's brother-in-law, was best
man. Ushers were Roger Reece
and Raold Straup, brother of the
bridegroom.
For her daughter's wedding,
Mrs. Abbott wore a two-piece dress
of beige shantung with pink acces
sories. The bridegroom's mother
wore a blue sheath dress with
white accessories. Both mothers
wore corsages of white carnations.
A reception in the social room
of the church followed the wed
ding ceremony. The reception ta
ble, covered with white tulle, was
centered by a tall white three-tiered
colonnade cake topped with
three white wedding bells and beau
tifully decorated with pink roses
and white lilies. Tall white tapers
on either side were centered with
dainty bouquets of maidenhair
fern, lavender sweet peas and
while daisies. The gift table was
covered in pink cloth and white
tulle, centered with a large bou
quet of small pink roses and maid
enhair fern.
Mrs. Lindsay Tibbett of Mcdford
cut the cake, assisted by Mrs.
Raold Straup, sistcr-in-law of the
bridegroom. Miss Sue Merriott of
Winston served the punch and
Miss Blanche Aldcn poured coffee.
Miss Sharon Josh had charge of
the gift table. She was assisted by
Boh and Rod Kinyon. Miss Linda
Abbott, sister of the bride, bad
.charge of the guest book.
Here from out of town to attend
the wedding were Mr. and Mrs.
John Novak, Mcdford, and Mr. and
Mrs. Lindscy Tibbett and son.
Dean, of Eagle Point, relatives of
the bride; Miss Gail Tibbett and
brother, Dale, Grants Pass; and
Mr. and Mrs. Clemont Allard, Mr.
and Mrs. Edgar Allard and Mr.
and Mrs. Emery Montague and
son, Terry, all of Martinez, Calif.,
relatives of the bridegroom.
The newlywcds will be at home
in the navy officers quarters in
Tacoma, Wash., following a honey
moon at North Oregon beaches.
For traveling, the bride wore a
yellow and avocado dacron sum
mer dress with white hat and ac
cessories and the corsage from her
bridal bouquet. The pearls she
wore were a gift from the bride
groom. The bride, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Curtis Abbott, was gradu
ated from Roseburg High School
this year.
The bridegroom has been in the
U.S. Navy for the past six years
and holds the rating of radioman
second class. He attended Rose
burg schools.

day at 8 p.m. June 1 1 ot the Methodist Church
in Myrtle Creek with the Rev. Cyril Dorsett offi

fore 75 relatives and friends b '.he
Rev. Cyril Dorsett at 8 p.m. in the
Methodist Church at Myrtle Creek.
The church was decorated with
baskets of pink and white gladioli
with two floor candelabrum grac
ing the altar.
Traditional processional and re
cessional wedding music was play
ed by Carolyn Smith, sister of the
bridegroom. Pat Donnell of Port
land sang "Because" and "The
Lord's Prayer." Preceding the wed
ding party were candlelighters, Da
vid and Steven Gosline of Rose
burg. The bride, given in marriage by
her father, was radiant in a floor
length wedding gown of white sat
in and lace. Her fingertip veil wa
fastened to a little rap ot lace and
pearls. She carried a crescent
shaped bouquet of paclanopsis and
stephanotis.
Elizabeth Ann House, Nyssa, was
the maid of honor. She and the
bridesmaids were dressed in bal
lerina length aqua polished cotton
dresses fashioned alike, with tulle
sashes and headpieces. They all
carried nosegays of pink baby
gladioli. Bridsmaids were Mrs.
Doug Manske, Salem; Jane Grath,
Woodburn, and Billie Jean Og
born, Mvrlle Creek.

as best man, with Tom Pickins,

Rice pouring the coffee and punch.
Doris Henderson, a high school
friend, attended the gift table and
guests book.

in Myrtle Creek. Both the bride

June 9 from Oregon State College,

in elementary education.
