month's vacation trip to Chicago

land, has arrived home to spend
the summer with her mother, Mrs.
Ruby Vance. Lorna started her
tummer work Monday working for

Sunday to visit the latter't brother-in-law,

News-Review, who is a patient at
Sacred Heart Hospital. Stanton it
reported to be satisfactorily conval
escing from recent surgery.
Mrs. Burdette Peterson has re
turned to her home in Roseburg,
following a trip to Centuria, Wis.,
by train. She left here May 14 and
returned home Saturday. She drove
a car back to Roseburg and was
accompanied home by her hus
band's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Os
car C. Peterson, who will reside
here with them at 1741 NE Fremont.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ciety ofi
Portland are leaving Saturday for
Medical Lake, Wash., to spend the
three tummer months working.
They will return to Portland in the
fall, where Mr. Giesy will continue
his studies at the University of
Oregon School of Medicine. Mrs.
Giesy, the former Barbara Pe
terson of Roseburg, is the daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Burdette Pe
teson. She is a past Roseburg
rodeo queen.

I Dies Of Heart Attack
I STORMVILLE. N. Y. (AP)
Milton Groth, 50, cartoonist, died
Monday night of a heart attack
while driving his automobile. The
car rammed a parkway island,
men nit a tree.
j Dr. Chester Golding. medical
examiner, said Groth died before
his car went out of control.
Groth's cartoons appeared in
such national magazines as the
Saturday Evening Post and Col
liers. He was an etcher, water
colorist and painter in oils. .
Publisher Predicts
Education Will Be
Doubled In 10 Years
CHICAGO (AP) William Benton,-
publisher of the Encyclo
pedia Britannica, predicted Tues
day that America's annual invest
ment in education will nearly dou
ble in the next 10 years.
He said money set aside for
education will rise from the pres
ent IS billion dollars a year to 28
billion in 1968.
Speaking at a luncheon in honor
of the Britannira'a 190th birthday
anniversary, the former U.S.
Democratic senator from Connect
icut said:
"Even if there were no chal
lenge upon us in the world power
struggle between totalitarian and
free societies, we would still need
to multiply our investment in edu
cation." Benton reported the Britannica
has grown from a business which
grossed three million dollars in
1941 to its present level antici
pated for 1958 of nearly 70 million
dollars.
Benton also disclosed for the
ftr; time figures regarding the
Britannica's contributions to the
University of Chicago. Britannica
became associated with the school
in 1943 through a gift from Sears,
Roebuck it Co. which owned the
publishing firm.
Royalties and cash payments to
the university have totaled $5,500,
000, he said.

Father Killer Sentenced
To School For Boys
LOVINGTON, N. M. 11 - Paul
Sims. 10, named as the killer of
his father, was sentenced yester
day to New Mexico's Springer
School for Boys for an indefinite
period.
An inquest jury held that Paul
shot and killed his father. William
Hurschell Sims, 42, last Thursday.
The sentence was handed down
by Dist. Judge John R. Brand.
Paul's brother, Hurschell Leroy
Sims, 8, who admitted being with
his brother at the time of the
slaying, was released to his moth
er's custody.
Argentine Airliner
With 22 Aboard Crashes
RIO DE JANEIRO AP) An
Argentine airliner with 22 persons
aboard crashed off the coast of
Brazil Tuesday.
The local office of tha line.
Aerolineas Argentinas, said it was
not known whether there were any I
survivors.
The airline said there were 16
passengers and 6 crewmen aboard
the four-engine plane. Two of the
passengers were children.
The plane took off from Rio's
international airport at 6:54 a.m.
for Buenos Aires. It had arrived
earlier in the day from Europe.
The airline said the plane
crashed near the island of Uha
Grande, about 75 miles southwest
of Rio De Janeiro.

Veteran Milt Kane, Skyline Con
ference scoring leader in 1957-1958,
starred for Modesto.

his first season before following
Kane to Utah.
