    U. S. Lets Contract
For Atom-Powered Ship

States will launch a nuclear-powered
merchant ship in 1959.
A $20,908,744 -contract for con
struction of the vessel was award
ed yesterday to the New York
Shipbuilding Corp. of Camden,
N. J.
A ioint announcement bv the
Maritime Administration and the
Atomic Energy Commission said
the atomic propulsion system
would be supplied by Babcock &
Wilcox Co. under a separate con
tract with AEC for another nine
million dollars.
The ship, to be named the NS
(for nuclear ship) Savannah, is to
be 587 feet long, have a beam of
78 feet, a service speed of 20
knots and a deadweight tonnage of
10,190 tons, the announcement said.

Riddle Extension Unit Has Guest Speaker
A band concert cafe style is
slated Friday night at the Riddle
High School auditorium.
The high school bandy'consisting
of 14 members, will give Its con
cert of marches, popular tunes,
dance music, solos and novelties
while the audience sits at cafe
tables around the auditorium floor.
Refreshments will be served by
comely majorettes of the band.
The band is directed by Phillip
