Mr. and Mri. Okty K. Belknapp
Jr. are newcomers to Douglas
County. They formerly resided in
Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Belknapp is
employed by Evans Products.
Mrs. Harry Schneider of Kirk
land, Wash., is spending the week
in Roseburg visiting at the home
of her brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. James Doyle, and
family. Mrs. Schneider is the form
er Dorothy Doyle.
Mist Elizabeth Ro'imon has re
turned to her horn in Kansas
City, following a visit here with
her brother and sister-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. John II. Robinson. Miss
Robinson spent a week in Carmel
and San Francisco, prior to com
ing to Roseburg.
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Dyer, David
and Dalcne; Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Bentley, Lori and Lonnie; Harold
Horton, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jones,
John Rand and Mary Radford were
among those from Roseburg who
attended the motorcycle races in
Coos Bay bunday.
Mrs. Elizabeth Bryce is leav
ing Roseburg Friday to spend
three weeks in Los Angeles vis
iting her son, Philip, and his fam
ily. She will later go to Detroit
to spend several months isiting
relatives and friends there and
also in Lansing, Mich. She will
later go to New York City to vis
it her son, Edward, and his fam
ily, and will return to Roseburg
early in 1958.

Mr. and Mrs. Ronald K. Mann
and 4 months-old son are new
comers to the county from Hills
boro. Ore. Mr. Mann is a power
line erector.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Caraway of
this city were in Medford over
the weekend to attend the wed
ding of Shannon Van Valzah,
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. C. G.
Van Valzah, formerly of this city,
and Robert Nelson.
Mrs. Marvin (Marie) Peck of
the Pixie Kitchen at W e c o m a
Beach spent Tuesday and Wed
nesday in Roseburg attending to
business and visiting friends. She
formerly had charge of the Vir
ginia Cafe in Portland prior to
going to Wecoma Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Pepple
and children left last Friday for
Portland, where one of the chil
dren will undergo eye surgery,
after which they will spend a few
days in Seattle. Mr. Pepple is em
ployed by Douglas County Title
Company.
Former Mayor and Mrs. A. J.
Young, who are vacationing, re
cently left Detroit, Mich, for Mil
waukie, Wis. to. visit relatives and
friends. They will drive back a
new car, after enjoying an extend
ed visit with relatives and will
stop at points of interest en route
home.
Mrs. Ivah Thornburg from Kalis
pell, Mont., spent the weekend vis
iting here at the home of Mrs.
Amelia Thronburg and family.
Tuesday, the latter, with her two
sons, Don and Ralph, and Miss
Candy Williams, accompanied Mrs.
Mrs. Thornburg to Cottage Grove
where she will visit her son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Thornburg, and small daughter,
then will return to Montana.
Mrs. Willard Buchanan, MRS.
George Foster, Mrs. E. R. Buck
ingham and Mrs. Alvin McLain
traveled to Salem Sunday to attend
the Lions Auxiliary-sponsored Ore
gon State Blind Institute. The
women babysat for parents of preschool-age
children while they re
ceived instruction on the care of
their blind youngsters. Some of the
women attended the program giv
en by post graduate students of the
school.
Mrs. Jean Anderson and her
mother, Mrs. Gladys Peifcr left
Wednesday for New York, Philadel
phia, Washington, D. C, and Vir
ginia where they will spend a
month visiting friends and rela
tives. They will see three sisters
of Mrs. Peifer: Miss Edna Kettell,
in New York; Mrs. Banks Yong
kins, in Philadelphia; and Mrs.
Kathryn Startzcl, in Shamokin,
Pa. Mrs. Peifer intends to stay in
Philadelphia while Mrs. Anderson
visits friends in the area.

Kristensen of Eugene spent Sun
day in Roseburg visiting the for-'
mers son and daugnter-in-iaw,
Mr. and Mrs. Paulus McKee, and
children, Carol and Dickie, on Se
Kane Street. j
Doug Doneca of Portland and
formerly of Roseburg is spending
the summer here as the house
guest of Don Thronburg. Doug,
who attends Lewis and Clark Col
lege, is presently employed by
Roseburg Lumber Co.
Mist Norma Thiele, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Perry Thiele, has
completed her freshman year at
Oregon State College, and is leav
ing this coming weekend for Camp
Tamarac in Central Oregon where
she will be employed as a girls'
camp counselor.
Mr, and Mrt. David Danielt
made the trip to McMinnville last
weekend at which time the former
competed in the driving contest
held there. Daniels is the winner
of the local contest. Later, they
went to Portland and Vancouver,
Wash., visiting friends in the form
er city.
Mr. and Mrt. Robert H. Davis
are making their home at 1857 NE
Klamath. Mr. Davis is the piano
and organ teacher at Ott-Ricketts
Music store. They formerly resid
ed in San Diego. Mrs. Davis, who
is an accredited mathematics
teacher, joined Mr. Davis here
after she completed her teaching
in San Diego.
Frank Sobczak is leaving Fri
day -for San Francisco to bring
his wife and their childern, Janice,
Frank and Jimmy, to Roseburg
to make their home. They will
live in the Vista Apartments. Mr.
Sobczak is adminstrator of sup
ply at the Roseburg VA Hospital.
Since coming to Roseburg Mr.
Sobczak has been staying with Mr.
and Mrs. Hjalmcr Johnson and
family on SE Kane Street.
Col. and Mrt. Raymond Bell
and daughter, Miss Judy, and
Mrs. Bell's mother, Mrs. Lillian
Van Kimmell, left today for San
Francisco to visit Mr. and Mrs.
J. L. Cauthorn and will stop at
points of interest en route to Am
arillo, Texas, where Col. Bell will
be stationed. They have spent the
last two years at Anchorage, Alas
ka. Judy spent a year in Rose
burg completing her high school
studies and this last year attend
ed University of Oregon. Col. Bell
is a son of W. D. Bell of this city;
a nephew of Miss Minnie Bell,
Miss Rosa B. Parrott and L. L.
Bell, and a cousin of Miss Helen
Casey and Mrs. Worth Davis.
They have visited here since Sunday.
