Lindsay, utilized a drop kick and
body press to win the opening fall
over Lenz. But the powerful Lena
came fighting back with the sam-j
treatment and won the next fall
and eventually the match when he
bounced Lindsay's "noggin" into
the ring turnbuckle. Lindsay wis
unable to return for the third fall
and lost the match via forfeit.
The prelim bout between De
cline and Bastien proved a na
tural and was enjoyed highly by
the good sized crowd on hand. Both
grapelers were 4,cleames" and
gave a good account of scientific
wrestling.
DeGIane won the first fall with
body slams and presses. Bastien
turned the tricks during the sec
ond fall with slams and presses
and then DeGIane copped the
match, five minutes into the final
period, with a jack-knife.
According to Matchmaker Elton
Owen, Lindsay and Lena will be
rematched for the comine. week in
the main event bout. No prelim
was announced.

The Days Creek Wolves hosted
the Douglas junioi varsity to a 47
44 basketball win Saturday night
at Days Creek. It was the fourth
win of the year for Coach Tom
Mason's lads.
The teams battled to a 12-12 first
quarter knot and then Days Creek
puUed ahead at the half, 23-21
Douglas came fighting back in the
third frame, however, and took a
34-31 lead with a 13 point produc
tion while holding the home v olves
attack to eight.
Days Creek, not to be denied,
rallied in the final stanza pumping
IS counters through the hoop in
the final quarter to 10 for the visit
ing crew, and thu win.
I Bob Lowry captured high scor
ing honors for the contest with 23
points.

last minute rally for a 54-47 non
league basketball victory over
the state-ranked Marshfield Pi
rates Saturday night at Coos Bay.
. Forwards Llod Yandell and
Bob Burns sparked the opening
quarter drive by the Braves with
eight and six points respectively.
The opening minute of the second
canto had them increasing their
margin further. 215, but the com
bined Pirate forces of Roger
Johnson and Hardy Spurgenn
narrowed the gap to 25-15 at half
time. Reedsport maintained this mar
gin throughout most of the third
frame and then the Pirates began
to connect, closing the lead slow
ly. With Johnson leading the way
with 11 counters. Marshfield pull
ed into a 43-43 tie with the clock
still showing six minutes left in
the final stanza.
Yandell then put the Braves
out front with a field goal fol
lowed by two foul shots by Jerry
Friese.
Friese canned two additional
field goals on "cripples" along
with three foul shots by Yandell
accounting for the final point
spread.
It was the eighth win for
Reedsport against five losses.
The Pirates are five and five for
the year.
The jayvee contest between the
schools ended with Marshfield on
the long end of a 36 34 decision.

Stanford whipped the Huskies

day. 'lhe only other PCC garnet last
weekend pitted Idaho against Ore
gon at Eugene, Ore. Idaho won
its first conference victory 64-46
on Friday. Oregon took its first
Saturday, 50-48.
Semester examinations idled the
other schools.
Stanford's Bond was high point
man in both games wilh the
Huskies, dropping in 25 points in
the Indian victory and 20 points
on Saturday.
The senei gave Washington a
5 1 record and Stanford i 23
mark.
The Huskies went ahead 48-37
in the final period Saturday, but
the Indians tied the score 64-64
with a minute left. Washington
forward Bill Stady pushed one in
to break the tie.
Oregon insured its first PCC
victory with possession tactics in
the last two minutes. Idaho's Jer
ry Morgenson broke the freeze
once, but missed his shot. Bill
Moore and Charley Franklin led
Oregon scoring with 13 points
each. Bob Prestel was Idaho's top
scoremaker with 12 points.
Idaho hosts Washington State
Tuesday night. Oregon plays at
Washington State this weekend,
and Oregon State at Washington.

The Glendale Pirates and Illinois

riod score and 22-20 at halftime
before Glendale began pulling
away to go on to post a 43-39

It was the initial hoop win for
the Pirates in Rogue League play
after four outings.
A 13-point production in the third
period was the deciding factor as
Coach Bob Stolti' lads held the vis
iting offense to a mere six. The
frame came to a halt with the
scoreboard reading 35-26 in favor
of the home crew.

ponents. None of the teams are
named yet.
Paul Yundt Jr. fired the top se
ries of the day with a 482 count
on solos of 188. 138 and 156. Other
high scores were rolled by Gene
Bratsch 452. Don Wells 432 and
Lewis McAllister with 432.
High game of the session was
rolled by Bob Blizard who had 192.
Mike Bloomquist fashioned 191
Gilbert Mack had 191 and Lewis
