The Garden Valley Women's Club
collected several dozen quarts of
canned fruit and vegetables at its
meeting Thursday to give to the
Hungarian family which has been
sponsored by two central Douglas
County churches.
A March of Dimes collection will
be started at the next regular meet
ing of the club on Feb. 7 and con
tinued at the community potluck
dinner on Feb. 9. A resolution was
made to co-operate with the Moth
ers March on Jan. 31.

Approves Use Of Bus '
Th Oakland school board this
week approved us of th school
bus for band and spectators to
gamea away from home, but lim
ited th traveling distance to 30
miles from Oakland.
Alto, in th line of athletic
events, th board agreed to allow
the town basketball team to use
th high school gym on night a
week for a rental of S3 per hour.
A representative from Eugene
was on hand to explain settlement
of disputed claims in athletics.
Donald Mod Of Etkton
Attends WSC Course
Donald L. Mod of Elkton is at
tending Washington State College's
winter short course in agriculture.
He will spend two months on the
Pullman campus studying agricul
ture and other subjects useful to
farmers. He is one of 49 students
who enrolled in WSC's first winter
short course. ...

be awarded a certificate of comple
tion.
The annual meeting of the board
of directors and stockholders of
the South Umpqua State Bank waa
held Tuesday evening at the bank
with Carl Hill, president of th
board of directors, in charge.
Business of the previous year
was discussed and explained to the
stockholders, who voted. not to de
clare a dividend and to transfer
those funds from undivided profits
to the reserve fund.
