One Out Of
Every Four
Toys A Doll
i A recent survey by the Toy
Manufacturers of the U.S.A. re
: veals that one out of every four
toys sold this year, will be some
type of doll.
Thus dolls become Number One
among the vast variety of
playthings available on the gift
parade for youngsters.
The ever rising demand for
dolls is by no means entirely due
to the constantly rising child pop
ulation of the nation, with its fair
measure of little girls.
It is traceable also to the skill
with which manufacturers have
produced dolls so lifelike and in
such great variety, that uiey are
almost irresistable. As a matter
of fact, there is a strong trend
among little girls, wisely encour
aged by their parents, to collect
"families ' of dolls.
.Helpful to Rearing
Psychologists also view this
trend as a good one because they
of children who eventually will be
come the parents of the future.
Doll makers have seized upon
the miracles of modern science
to endow their products with the
life-like attributes which endear
them to the youngsters. Even
electronics play a part. For there
actually are dolls available today
equipped with sound devices
which enable them to "talk" with
their little mothers, and say
prayers, as well as cry. Similar
ly there are dolls that can drink
and wet themselves for a diaper
change, and walk under their own
power.
Yet perhaps most important of
all to the lifelike nature of the j
new dolls is the development ot
bodies and heads out of new ma-!
terials that give them the feel of
human skin as well as its plas
ticity. They can be bathed.
Dolls now available for Christ
mas gift giving can be had with
hair, sometimes real and wash
able, to match that of any little
girl, be she blond, brunette or
red headed.
Almost every occupation and
profession is reflected among the
members of the doll world, in
addition to "baby dolls." Theyj
range from ballerinas to nuns. I
And recently a trend toward ac-i
ceptance of the doll that so re
markably duplicates the teen
ager who is budding into woman
hood has been noted.

New Animals
InToyland
Largest menagerie in the world
is in the toy industry according
to the Toy Afanufacturers of the
U S A.. Inc.. and about 50 million
of the animals will be found under
Christmas trees this year.
.Most of the new animals in the
toy world are realistic, whether
thev are stuffed, or made of wood,
rubber or plastic. There has been
a noticeable increase in their
popularity.
For the little miss there are
little dogs which wag their tails
and roll over while playing a soft
melody.
For the little man mere is a
terrier or monkey which can do
ten back flips with one winding.
Both would enjoy the little
poodle that walks along on four
legs with the same gain as h i s
real life counterpart.
Since the smallest tot who is
just beginning to walk needs an
animal which will help in his i y
physical development a push-pull;
animal is recommended. There y
are dogs that bark and cows that : g
moo, which are made of durable I J
wood.
Hundreds of the old favorites,
such as stuffed bears, bunnies, : y
and horses, are among the gift V
