' The increase comes on the heels
- of three-cent boosts announced
; Friday, effective Monday, of the
wholesale price of vacuum-packed
coffee by General Foods Corp.
(Maxwell House) and Standard
Brands, Inc. (Chase tz Sandborn).
Meanwhile other major . food
chains announced price increases
along the A&P pattern. Safeway
Stores Inc. said it is boosting
- prices of its private label coffee

May Build Huge
Pulp, Paper Mill

Pacific Plywood Co., holding vast
timber reserves on the West
Coast, is considering development
of pulp and paper mill facilities
at Coos Bay, Ore.-, and Eureka,
Calif..
Owen R. Cheatham, president,
said here Thursday night the pro
posed development would be part
of the firm's new program for
heavy paper production. A kraft
paper mill is now under construc
tion at Toledo, Oregon.
Georgia Pacific recently ac
quired four billion boardfeet of
timber in Southwest Oregon from
the Coos Bay Lumber Co., and
has options on Hammond Lumber
Co. holdings in Northern Cali
fornia. Cheatham said studies of pulp
and paper potential in these areas
fit into his company's pattern of
fugure growth. He and other
Georgia Pacific officials met with
reporters Thursday night in ob
servance of final transfer of gen
eral offices from New York to
Portland.
'Fat' Soldier

at Parks AFB receiving ground work for future training.

Helicopter Ends Non-Stop Flight
WASHINGTON lift The Army
has flown a helicopter on the first
transcontinental, nonstop trip in an
attempt to prove the practicabili
ty of long - range 'copter flight.
A weary three - man crew land
ed a twin - rolorcd 1121 at the
Pentagon's heliport late Friday
afternoon, ending a 31-hour and
40-minute flight from San Diego,
Calif.
i'"our aerial refuelings were used
to enable the normally short-ranged
machine to make the 2,610 mile
trip across the United States. When
daylight and weather permitted,
the helicopter . ."drank" fuel
through a hose from a small tank
er plane which accompanied it.
Twice the H21 hovered near the
ground while gas was pumped up
through a hose.
The Army said the trip proved
that helicopters can be flown
long distances to reach battle
zones in wartime. It also seemed I
to prove that man's ears can
stand a day and a half of the
thundering din of an engine and
whirling rotors, with only a few
winks of sleep.
