Dooley spent a year in Indo
china as a Navy medical offi
cer in 1954-1955 assisting Viet
namese in flight from the Com
munist regime in northern Indo
china. He wrote a book about his
experience, "Deliver Us from
Evil."
With Dooley are three former
Navy corpsmen who worked with
him at Haiphong, the evacuation
port in Indochina in 1954. They
are Norman Baker, of Berlin, Vt.,

Peter Kessey of Port Arthur,
Tex., and Dennis Shepard of Sa
lem, Ore.
Dooley will pay the corpsmen
$500 a month each from his own
pocket, sources of much of the
trip's expense. Their supplies
two jeeps, rations, trailers, camp
ing equipment and $250,000 worth
of medical and surgical goods
were donated by private con
cerns.
