CONCORDIA SEMINARY QUARTET

Quartet To Present Sacred Concert Here
A sacred concert is to be given
at St. Paul's Lutheran Church,
Corey and Military Streets, Tues
day, July 17, at 8 p.m. by the
Concordia Seminary Quartet. The
Annual Sunday School
Picnic Set Saturday
The Roseburg First Baptist
Church annual Sunday school pic
nic will be held Saturday between
4 and 7:30 p m. at Umpqua Park.
' Transportation will be available
from the church at 3:30 p.m. or
may be arranged by calling Mrs.
Pauline Greenfield, OR 3-7883, or
Mrs. Ruth Hazzard, OR 3-7490.
Races and contests for the whole
family, will begin at 4 p.m. at the
park. ' Ralph Preston, Clatence
Moblcy and Carlos Page are on
the games and prizes committee.
At 5 p.m. jump rope, badminton,
volleyball, croquet, baseball and
horseshoes may be played, accord
ing to Ralph Preston and George
Hughes, committeemen.
A potluck picnic will be held at
6 p.m. Those attending are asked
lo bring their own table service.
Ice cream, coffee and punch will
he furnished. Mae Byrd, Corrinc
Madson, Helen Lchne, and Grace
Deets are on the serving commit
tee. Picnic committee members
are Bobbie Hughes, Mabel Trim
and Vilctta West.
Doris Byrd will be in charge of
the evening program which will
include stunts by the Victory Class,
Kidclis Class and young people,
singing and closing devotions. Park
and campfire arrangements are to
be handled by Clarence Moblcy
and George Hughes.
Dennice Myers Speaks
To Missionary Croup
The Umpqua Missionary Group
met at the hall recently, and
heard Miss Dinnice Myers, who
had attended 4-H summer school
on a scholarship from the group,
report on what she had done at
Corvallis.
The ladies pieced a quilt for wel
fare. Letters were read from a
lady in Germany and one in Af
rica. The business meeting was
conducted by President Sally Am
erson. Others attending were, Roberta
Coffey, Flo Rippstein, Kitty Rocd
er and Opal Munson. The next
meeting will be held in September.

quartet members are all students
of Concordia Lutheran Seminary
St. Louis. Mo., one of the largest
theological schools in America, ac
cording to the Rev. W. A. Sylwest-
er, pastor ot tne local church.
The group has toured the mid
west and eastern states in previous
years. This is its first concert tour
of the western and Pacific Coast
states.

Azalea Church Ladies r
Plan Public Dinner
Ladies of the Azalea Community
Church met recently at the home
of Mrs. Orville Clark to make
plans for a dinner they plan to
serve at the Azalea Grange Hall
Thursday evening, July 26.
The dinner, which will feature
chicken and noodles and home
made desserts, will be a money
raising project for the building
fund of the church. 1
Meals will be served from 5:30
to 8:30 p.m. No charge will be
made for children under school
age.

Yoncalla Church Bible
School Classes Close
The Yoncalla Church of Christ
vacation Bible school closed last
week with an average attendance
of 90 students for the two-week
school, according to Mrs. James
fcdin, leader.
Leah Martin received first prize
in an attendance drive. Lavcrne
Anderson received second prize
and Hallie Jean Dupper, third, in
the drive. Judy Patrick won a
prize for memorizing 25 verses.

Oakland Church Croups
Plan Fete For July 28
Plans are being made for a fete
at the Oakland City Park July 28
for the benefit of the Presbyterian
church building fund, according to
News-Review correspondent Edith i
Dunn.
Preliminary plans were made
last Friday at a meeting of the
Harriet-Rosa Circle of the church
at the parish hall. Members of
Esther Circle were also present.
Harriet-Rosa Circle will have
charge of the food booth and
Esther Circle will operate a fish
pond and candy booth. The Oak
land high school band will play.
Other church circles will also par
ticipate. Additional booths will be
announced at a later date.
CLASS MEETS SLATED
The Ladies Bible Study Class of
the Green Community Church will
meet regularly every Thursday at
1:30 p.m. through July, when it
will recess until fall. The group,
under the leadership of Mrs. Mil
dred Dunn, meets in the mem
ber's homes and will welcome any
new-comers or interested persons.

meeting may be obtained by call

Mrs. Guy Pealer spent the past
week with her son, John Hakanson
and family, at Myrtle Creek.

Potluck Picnic, Meet
The Umpqua Hillbillies Square
Dance Club held a potluck picnic
at the Christian Hancock picnic
place in Elkton last week.
It was the monthly executive
meeting date and a business meet
ing followed the picnic. During the
meeting it was decided for the
group to attend a square dance in
Reedsport in the near future.
The next regular dance will be
held July 20 with the, bachelors
serving.
