    School District No. 4
Hot Conducting Survey
- School District No. 4 is not con
ducting any type of survey school
officials have announced.
The announcement came from
Arthur C. Judd, assistant super
intendent of the Roseburg dis
trict, after he had received num
erous telephone calls from par
ents inquiring about a survey.
Apparently, Judd said, a group
of salesmen are in the city mak
ing a house-to-house campaign and
using a "school survey" gimmick
to gain entry into homes. Judd sug
gested that in the future, home
owners request identification from
the callers to find out what they
are representing.

Lightning Hits
Oregon Farmer,
Deals Fire Losses
POWELL BUTTE i Light
ning critically injured a farmer
and set two fires as the third
storm in three days struck thjs
Central Oregon area Wednesday.
Archie (Bud) Mustard, 45, is in
critical condition in a Redmond
hospital with injuries suffered
when a lightning bolt struck him
about 5:30 p. m. as he worked in
a field. Harold Jordan, a neighbor
who was with Mustard, escaped
unhurt.
Lightning truck the spire of the
Powell Butte Community Chris
tian Church and burned an eight-
inch hole in the roof. Custodian
Chester Maxwell, inside the
church at the time, was not in
jured. Another lightning bolt set fire
to a haystack fence on the Mal
colm McDonald ranch.
Observers estimated that three
fourths of an inch of rain fell in
about an hour during a downpour
that accompanied the lightning
storm. It was the worst of a series
of storms which began Monday
night. A steer on the Jack Mc
Caffery ranch was killed by light
ning Monday.
Wednesday's storm apparently
was a local one centered at Pow
ell Butte since there were no re
ports of damage in adjoining
areas.
Klamath Falls, where crop dam
age was heavy in a Tuesday
night storm, reported pleasant
weather Thursday. So did other
sections struck by earlier storms.

Its a great time
tobuyaBuick!
In price alone, today's Buick is an eyebrow-raising
buy. The prices start
right next to the low-priced cars, and
trade-in allowances are tops.
But the good buy you'll get on a '56
Buick is just the beginning. Just the cur
tain raiser on the fun you should be
having right now.
Why "wait till next year" when you can
start enjoying the fun of a years-ahead
transmission today? You've heard about
Variable Pitch Dynaflow but have you
ever tried it?
Do you have any idea how great getaway
can be with just a gas-saving nudge of
the throttle?
Ever had the thrill of giving her the gun
and switching the pitch like an airplane
pilot on take-off? There's a new kind of
zooniaway that gives you safer passing
in a twinkling.
Drink your present car has power? Can
be but come see what a mighty-muscled
322-cubic-inch Buick V8 can do. When
you buy a '56 Buick, you find the "power
pack" is built right in. Included in the
regular price.
Are you up to dale on how Buick's engi
neering whizzes have improved the ride?
. They've practically abolished bad roads.
Today you find a new kind of stability
and handling along roads that really
need renewing.
So why postpone the enjoyment of this
sort of fun, and comfort, and sheer
driving delight?
The big buys are on right now. Yet for
months and months to come, you'll still
be driving the newest Buick of them all
the best Buick yet.
nd there's a funny twist that works to
your advantage. These great new Buicks
may have made your present car way
out of date-but the old bus is still worth
plenty . . .
If you act now.
So come in and see what a really fine
allowance we can give you on trade-in.
See how low Buick prices start.
When you see how easy it is to own a
Buick, you can begin to enjoy 1956
driving at its best. There's never been
anything like the best Buick yet.
