Portland Sunday, where they left

at Corvallis. Six club members at
tended this year. They are Peggy
Murphy, Norma Peery, Roily Tan
dy, Barbara Mohr, Joyce Rippstein
and Joanne Roadman.
Mr. and Mrs. Gail Lawson and
two sons from Portland were
giiests at the Lynn Cooper home
in Umpqua on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Troy Short and
family have just returned home
from an extended Vacation trip
through Texas where they visited
friends and relatives.
Mrs. Billy Travis left this week
for Riverside, Calif. She plans to
spend several weeks at the home
of her daughter and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Don Lowman.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Bradley and
son, James, are houseguest? at the
home of the latter's brother and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Ripp
stein of Umpqua.
Move To Ranch
Mr. and Mrs. Amos Case from
Orick, Calif., who bought the Char
ley Churchill place near Umpqua
several years ago, are moving to
the ranch now and plan to make
their home here.
Mrs. Lou Clark and Mrs. de le
Rue of Coquille were recent guests
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn
Cooper.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Baird of
Springfield have taken Joylene and
Glenn, children of Mr. and Mrs.
Blake Baird, to their home until
their parents are able to care for
them. Mrs. Baird was just re
leased from the hospital and is with

coma, Wash., has been a house
guest at the home of her brother

Bacon, for the past week. She had
made her home at Umpqua for
many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barney
drove to Kerby where they spent
several days visiting friends there.
Move- To Have Santiam
Route Designated Fails
SALEM UB A move to have
the North Santiam H'i'hway des
ignated as an alternate route of
V. S. 20 has failed, Salem Cham
ber of Commerce officials were
told Tuesday.
Residents along the route from
Santiam Junction through Salem
to the coast had asked for the
designation to gain 1 larger share
of traffic on the east-west high
way. State Highway Engineer R. H.
Baldock notified the chamber by
letter there is no possibility now
of making the change because the
two routes do not rejoin. The
highway now passes through Leb
anon, Albany and Corvallis to the
Oregon coast at Newport.
