Oakland Scout Fund
Drive Now Underway
A Uclcoff breakfast for the Scout
fund drive was held early last
week at the Veterans Building in
Oakland. Bruce Carter, Elmer
Hicks and Bill Scarth of Roseburg
conducted the meeting. Gene Cher
ry is chairman, and team captains
are: Kenneth Dorman, Lyle Stuwe,
Bill Bennett, and Kenneth Cope
land and Al Copeland.
The breakfast was served by Mrs.
Cherry, Mrs. Betty Early and Mrs.
Betty SommerviUe.
Anyone not contacted but who
wishes to donate to the fund may
lend donations to Gene Cherry.

Korean Orphans To Arrive
In Los Angeles Wednesday

mately 25 orphans adopted by U.S.
families will arrive Wednesday
by plane from Korea, a spokes
man tor the airlift said Saturday.
Adoptive parents who will be at
Los Angeles International Airport
when the Pan American World Air
ways plane lands at 8:15 a.m.
will include cowboy actor Roy
Rogers and his actress wife, Dale
Evans. They have adopted 3 V4-year-old
Ae Lee, bringing the to
tal of Rogers children to seven,
five of tehm adopted.
Accompanying the orphans will
be Dr. Bob Pierce, head of World
Vision, Inc., a non-profit mission
ary aid society through which, the
spokesman said, 7,079 orphans in
100 orphanages in Korea are sup

Senate Committee OK
Of Highway Bill Seen
WASHINGTON I Sen. Byrd
(D-Vi) said today his Senate Fi- I
nance Committee probably will ap- i
prove the taxes to pay for a big
highway construction program
largely as they were voted by the
House.
The committee closed two days
o( nastily staged puDlic Hearings
on the tax features of the Bill yes
terday. Byrd has called a closed
committee session Monday for
votes on these sections.
He told a reporter it was possi
ble the bill could be called up on
the Senate floor later next week.
