The Sockeye season will run
from June 25 through Sept. 3 in
Washington waters. These waters
will be open from 5 a.m. Monday
to 5 a.m. Friday between June
25 and Aug. 12. Between Aug. 11
and Sept. 3, fishing under com
mission control wiU be allowed
from 8 p.m. Sunday to S p.m.
Friday.
The high seas west of a line
north from Cape Flattery, Wash.,
to Bonilla Point, B.C., will be
closed to all Sockeye fishing from
June 28 through Aug. 5 this year.
In Canadian waters Sockeye
waters will be closed from 7 a.m.
Sept. 13 to 7 a.m. Sept. 19.
Commission .Chairman Robert
J. Schoettler, who is also Wash
ington State Fisheries, director,
announced a hearing in Seattle
April 20 on Puget Sound commer
cial salmon fishing regulations to
incorporate the Silver and Chum
fall season regulations.
Schoettler forecast a slightly
larger Sockeye haul than in 1955,
with an estimated catch ranging
from 1 to 1V million fish for each
nation. Bulk of the catch is ex
pected in the last 10 days of July
during the "Chilco" run.
