Gaugler is a nurse at Forest Glen

Plans May Food Sale
The UmDa.ua School Assn. held
their April meeting at the school
house recently and the business
meeting was conducted Dy tne
president Jim Brown.
Plans were made, and a com
mittee appointed, to have a food
sale in May and the nominating
committee gave its report for the
coming year.
A program was presented by
Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Fortin, with
a skit by Peggy Murphy, Joanne
Roadman and Joyce Kippsiein,
and square dances by eight of the
vounc DeoDle.
The next and final meeting of
this school year will be on May 4.
Oregon Broiler Growers
Organise, Elect Officers

men met here this week and organ
ized the Oregon Broilers Growers
Assn.
Cornelius Bateson. Salem, was
elected president of the organiza
tion which is to promote the sale
of Oregon-grown broiling chick
ens. Growers will pay voluntary
dues to finance the promotion pro
gram.
The state now produces nearly
seven million chickens annually
with an estimated cash value of
5Vt million dollars. However the
price of broilers has slipped from
a peak ot 36 cents a pound in mi
to a low of 22 tents this year. .

Additional Polio
Vaccine Released
By Health Service
WASHINGTON I An addi
tional 910,903 shots of Salk polio
vaccine were released Thursday
by the Public Health Service on
the first anniversary of licensing
of the product.
In the year since the vaccine
was declared 60 to 90 per cent ef
fective against paralytic polio. 46.-
423,740 doses have been released.
Output showed a big iumD in
March with nearly eight million
doses released, and the Health
Service expects that level to be
maintained or bettered during
April, May and June.
No definite figures are available
on the number of persons who
have been vaccinated, but Wel
fare Department officials estimate
that fyy now probably upwards of
20 million have received one or
more shots.
The "disease vear" for nolio
started last week. The Health
Service said Thursday the states
reported 68 polio cases for the
week ended April 7, compared with
61 in the comparative 1955 week.
Thirty-seven o the cases report
ed last week were paralytic, 19
nonparalytic and 12 unspecified as
to type. This compared with 26
paralytic, 14 nonparalytic and 21
unspecified during the 1955 week.
Thus far in 1956 there have been
1,140 polio cases reported, 621 of
them paralytic. In the similar 1955
period there were 1,124 cases, with
490 paralytic.

Mrs. Aaron Rothman won first
prize in the Chapel Contest, Can
yonville Bible Academy's newest
building project fund raising cam
paign. Winners were announced by
Robert Shaffer, academy secre
tary. Second prize was won by Alice
Peters; third, Eddie Parker;
fourth, Joe Barr and fifth, Jean
Lee. Prize winners had a choice
of several different electrical ap
pliances and art objects. Follow
ing the awarding of prizes, Shaf
fer showed a picture "Young Abe
Lincoln" to prize winners and
others who aided the chapel fund
drive. The same group finished the
evening with a hamburger feed at
the Shaffer home.
