Teachers Becoming
The nearly 2,500 educators at
tending the recent annual conven
tion of the Inland Empire Educa
tion Assn. in Spokane learned that
teachers are becoming a scarce
commodity.
ltoseburg School Supt. M. C, Del
ler told school board members
Wednesday of his trip to the con
vention to find instructors for the
district. The supply, he . said,
doesn't equal demand.
Three schools represented at the
session received practically all the
attention of potential teachers.
(The potential were a small share
of the 2,500 in attendance.) Those

The South Umpqua Business and
Professional Women's Club has
agreed to throw its weicht behind
a campaign by Canyonville Justice
of Peace Nina Pietzold to secure
a juvenile officer exclusively for
southern Douglas County.
Mrs. Pietzold is the Canyonville
organization's legislation commit
tee chairman.
She asked the organization's
backing for such an officer who
would search out juveniles in trou
ble before they commit serious of
fenses, according to correspondent
Virginia Proctor.
In other business the club presi
dent, Helcne Altrce, appointed
Mrs. Norman Chappell historian
and increased membership on each
standing committee.
A meeting in the home econom
ics room of Canyonville High
School soon was called for the
