SALEM Gov. Elmo Smith
has been appointed here to the
nine-member highway committee
of the National Governors Conference.
Smith, who succeeds the late
Gov, Patterson on the committee,
was appointed by Gov. Arthur B.
I.antflie of Washington, chairman
of the Governors' Conference.
Gov. Smith has been chairman
of the Oregon state Senate's High
way Committee in 1949 and 1951, in
which he played an important role
in obtaining passage of the state's
72 million dollar highway bond
construction program.
