W. O.'Gildersleeve, who resides
at 434 Fowler St., Roseburg, cele
braled his eighteith birthday at a
surprise picnic affair Sunday at
the park in Eugene. Honoring him
were his son, Oren, and wife and
son from Oakland, Ore.; his son,
Floyd, and wife, of Eugene; his
son, Milburn, and wife, of Albany;
his daughter, Airs. Vera Welch,
and her husband and their two
daughters from Florence, Ore.;
Mr. Welch's two sisters from Long
Beach, Calif.; his daughter, Sirs.
Verlie Senleen, and her son and
daughter from Victorville, Calif.,
who flew to Eugene as a surprise,
and Mr. Gildersleeve's grand
daughter and her husband and
three daughters.
Mr. Gildersleeve's wife was un
able to be present as she had
taken her sister back to her home
in Idaho and had not returned in
time for the picnic. Mr. Gilder
sleeve was born in Delaware
County, Iowa. He came to Oregon,
in 1922 and has resided in Rose
burg the last 14 years.

was held July 31 in the spacious
yard at the beautiful home of Mr.
and Mrs. W. H. Morley in Salem.
Eighty relatives and friends en
joyed the delicious potluck dinner
at 1 p.m. The afternoon was spent
in visiting and taking pictures.

ANNUAL PARISH PICNIC
IS SUCCESSFUL EVENT
The annual St. Joseph's Parish
picnic was held Sunday under
beautiful sunny skies at Umpqua
Tark in Roseburg. The parish pic
nic, as usual, was a hug esuccess
with attendance being in excess
of 500 people.
After those in attendance had
completed their picnic lunches, a
series of games were played, and
the following individuals emerged

I Mr. and Mrs. Al Hoffman were
honored at a reception and fare-
well party Tuesday evening in the
recreation room of the Yoncalla
Methodist Church by the Yoncalla
PTA and the grade school faculty.
Background music was furnished
during the evening by Mrs. Arne
Bjork and Mrs. George Edes.
Members of the PTA and faculty
served refreshments from a well
appointed table, covered with a
lace cloth and centered by tall
pink lighted tapers. The room
was beautifully decorated with
large bouquets of home grown
flowers.
About seventy five friends gath
ered to wisfl Mr. and Mrs. Hoff
man well in their new position.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman will
teach in the CToveniale School,
Mr. Hoffman as principal, tand

MOOSEHEART TALK
GIVEN AT MEETING
An interesting and educational
meeting was held by the Women
of the Moose at the Moose Hail
Monday. Senior reecnt, Mrs.
George Jameson, introduced the
Mooseheart Alumni Chairman,
Mrs. Merle Fitzgerald, who intro
duced Mrs. Paul Krucfer and Mrs.
Frank Piper who have .just re
turned from Mooseheart. They
stated many interesting facts
about Mooseheart and its activ
ities. They visijed the many homes
that the children live in, and both
were surprised and enthused to
learn the procedure of handling
these homes. They visited the
magnificent House of God, of
which every LOOM, is very
proud. Mrs. Waldon Ruutlediie
thanked the chapter for the many
gifts they gave her durins her
year as deputy grand regent.
Mrs. Ernie Koop has been nom
inated to fill the chaplain's chair
the balance of the year. Hazel Po

were united in marriage in an im
pressive double ring ceremony at
St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Fa
ther Richard Gleason performed
the ceremony at 10 a.m. Satur
day, Aug. 6, before friends and
relatives.
Pink and white gladioli graced
the main altar, and mixed white
and pink gladioli, hydrangeas and
daisies formed other decorations
the church. Mrs. John Schafer
of Seattle played organ music and
aocompanied Mrs. Rod Nevue, wo
sang two numbers.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride was beautiful in a pale
pink ballerina gown of tulle over
net and taffeta. She wore a pink
elbow length veil held in place by
pink seqiuned and pearl can. Her
bououct was of white gladioli and
slepnanolis. She wore a bcauulul
amythest birthstone ring, a gift
from the bridegroom, and pink
pearl earrings.
The bride's attendants were
Nanette Desbiens, sister of the
bride, as maid of honor; Janice
Morrow and Ixiretta Desbiens, sis
ter of the bride, as bridesmaids.
They wore pale pink ballerina
lensth ttile over net and taffeta
gowns. They wore headpieces of
pink tulle and flowers and carried
noseffays of pink and white dais

The bride's mother wore a pale
pink suit and hat with black ac
cessories and a white carnation
corsage. Mother of the bridegroom
wore a navy blue gown and a pink
carnation corsage.
A reception followed the cere
mony in the library of St. Jo
seph's School. Mrs. Paul Jenkins
decorated the beautifully appoint
ed bride s table and the punch ta
ble. Many beautiful gifts were on
display. The serving table was dec
orated in pink and while rose
buds. Mrs. Warren Kemmerer
ooured coffee. Presiding at the

Following a short trip to Washing
ton, the couole is at home at 1416
Grandview Terrace in Roseburg.
Both the bride and bridenroom
graduated from the local high
school. He is employed at 1-Deal
Concrete, after serving three
years in the Air Force. The bride
is employed as assistant to Dr.

begin Sept. 1, according to an announcement 'by the owner, Ralph Patterson, above right,
who has just returned from special summer studies under leading ballet and dance
teachers in Hollywood ond Los Angeles. At the left is talented Sharon Rutter, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Rutter, Grants Pass, who has come to Roseburg weekly for les
sons the last four years with Mr. Patterson and is leaving for Hollywood for further
study and to work. Mr. Patterson saw the New York City Ballet perform and while in
Laguna Beach, where he was guest teacher at the Barbara Peyton School of Dancing, he'
enjoyed attending the Laguna Art Festival. Mr. Patterson is beginning his sixth yea'r of
operating the Roseburg School of Dancing, located on W. Douglas Street. The school is
