"PERSONA NOM GRATA" Mrs. Karl E. Sommerlatte,
wife of the second secretary of the American Embassy in
Moscow, was declared ."persona non grata" or "undesir'
able" by the Soviet Foreign Office following her arrest
during a picture-taking expedition in Moscow. The move
is equivalent to demanding that she leave Russia. Mrs.
Sommerlatte is shown in recent photo made in Moscow
which was radioed to London and re-radioed to New York.
Christmas Tree Theft

Robinson, S3, accused in the theft
of 650 Christmas trees from a box
car at Beatty, Ore., last Novem
ber, appeared for arraignment in
Federal Court here Monday but
Judge Claude McColIoch deferred
it.
He said he would wait until an
other man, indicted with Robinson
by a federal grand jury last week,
is arrested. Robinson is a resident
of the Klamath Indian Reservation.

Small Timber Sale
The TJ. S. Forest Service has
scheduled a small sale of 58.000
board feet of timber, largely su
gar pine, in the area of Mean.
boat on the North Umntiua Rivet.
The sale is scheduled Dec. 3 at
2 o.m. in the Postoffice Building
at Roseburg. It will be an oral
sale.
The 4,000 board feet of Douglas
fir, appraised at $11.55, and the
54,000 ooara reet oi sugar pine,
appraised at $33.85, Is located on
a four-acre tract. Total appraised
price is $1,875.10.

Eisenhower Sees
No Repudiation
Of Popularity
WASHINGTON President
Eisenhower said Wednesday he
sees no repudiation or disapproval
of his administration's policies in
Republican loss of the House to
the Democrats.
The President told a news con
ference he plans to consult with
the Democratic congressional lead
ersas well as Republican on
both domestic and international
matters during the new session of
Congress convening in January.
With a trace of a smile, the chief
executive said he sees no point in
butting his head against a stone
wall.

in doubt.
Eisenhower volunteered at the
outset of bis session with news
men, that in a lot of cases he was
absolutely astonished and surprised

House.
Eisenhower hesitated momen
tarily, then said no, he saw no dis
approval in the outcome. He added
that so far he had not attempted to
make any analysis of the results,
but win do so when complete re
turns are available.
A reporter quoted Leonard W.
Hall, the Republican national
chairman, as saying he did not re
gard the Democratic victory in the
House and the election outcome
generally as any "break away"
from the Eisenhower administra
tion policies. The newsman asked
whether the Tresident agrees with
Hall on that.
