Government Runs Nearly
$5 Billion In Red
WASHINGTON I -The govern
ment ran nearly five billion dol
lars in the red in the three months
ending Sept: 30. j
me period was the first auarter
of the 1955 fiscal year, which be
gan last July 1, and the deficit j
for the three months was a little i
bigser than was predicted for the i
entire year when budget figures
were revised in September.
However, the first half of each
fiscal year from July through De-j
cember is a time of low tax re
ceipts and always piles up a rie-i
ficil. It is then cut back sharply ;
from January through June
months when tax receipts are big-1
aer man spenoing.

thus cut down congestion of calls.
