The bazaar and supper given
by the Associated Women of the
Community Presbyterian Church
of Oakland was- a most success
ful affair of last Friday evening.
Oakland Garden Club's display
was a beautiful arrangement of
flowers depicting a garden icene
with trellis and pool. Mrs. Na
dine Stearns was chairman.
A program was presented with
an old time city council meeting
being presented in skit form with
the following taking part: Mrs.
Isabell Crist, Mrs. Don Salchen
berg, Mrs. Edith Dunn, Mrs. John
Biegelow, Mrs. Homer Noble, Mrs.
Ruth Bunch, Mrs. Dale Swine
hart, Mrs. Vene'ta Riggs, Mary
Lee, Kittle Ross and Jesse '.ee.
All were dressed in 1900 stylea.
Other skits and musical numbers
were presented.
Proceeds of the affair win (0

parade preceded the supper with

Ellsworth's Indian Bill
For $3 Million Passes
WASHINGTON Ul - A bill by
Rep. Ellsworth (R-Ore), aimed at
dividing more than three million
dollars among Oregon Indians,
was passed by the House Monday.
The bill, which goes to the Sen
ate, calls for the secretary of the
Interior to prepare a roll of mem
bers of the confederated bands of
Umpqua and Calapooias, the Tilla
mook, Coquille, Tootootney, Chet
co and Molalla tribes.
The rolls would provide the basis
for distribution of the three million
dollars which the United States
Court of Claims awarded the In
dians in 1951.

Girl, 13, Dies After
Auto Accident Monday
PORTLAND m Delores Cubelic.
13, of Cherryville was injured fa
tally, and three other children and
their grandmother were hurt Mon
day when an automobile ran off
a highway east of Sandy.
The grandmother, Mrs. Marie
Wilma Otto, 49, of Cherryville, was
driving the car. She and the others,
Gregory Wasinger, S, and his sis
ters, Pamela, 4, .and Donna, 2,
were treated for non-critical injuries.
DIRECTORY DELAYED
The Roseburg Chamber of Com
merce reports that the new Rose
burg City Directory will not be
available for several Weeks.
The representative of the pub
lisher informed the chamber of
the delay. The new book is being
published by T. W. Salisbury Co.,
Portland.

Miss Nanell Akard of Bakers
field, Calif., is visiting at the Les

and visit relatives in South Da
kota for a couple of weeks. Mr.

Tandy of Washington, D. C, who
has been spending the last week
here visiting at the home of Miss
Helen Casey on Blakeley Street,
is spending this week as the guest
of Mrs. Arthur Clarke, on Kane
Street.
Take Vacation Mr. and Mrs.
I. M. Dunn and sons, Mike and
John, are back home following a
two-week vacation trip. They vis
ited Mr. Dunn's family at Bridge
port, Neb., and drove via Reno
and Denver to Rushmore Nation
al Park in North Dakota and to
Yellowstone. They report that
the weather was very hot.
Back From Vacation Dr. and
Mrs. James E. Campbell are
back at their borne in Hucreat,
following a vacation of a month.
Dr. Campbell attended the Amer
ican Medical Association meeting
in San Francisco, after which they
went to Eastern Oregon and then
to Canada for the remainder of
their vacation.
Mrt. Trued Home Mrs. S.
Clarence Trued, who underwent
emergency, surgery for a rup
tured appendix at Sacred Heart
Hospital in Eugene several weeks
ago, has been discharged and is
now convalescing at her home on
South Main Street in Roseburg.
Mr, Trued went to Eugene and
brought her home.
Visits Friend Miss Barbara
Pattison went by plane Sunday to
Santa Rosa, Calif., to visit Miss
Mary Margaret Cobb, a former
high school chum.
Sitter Visits Mr. and Mrs. J.
A. Weiler, Phoenix, Ariz., were
weekend guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Pargeter on
Harrison Street. The two women
are sisters. -
Returns Te Salt Lake Mr,
and Mrs. Herbert Beyers have re
turned to their borne in Salt Lake
City following several days visit
ing in Roseburg with the former's
mother, Mrs. Cora Beyers.
Visits Relatives Mr. and Mrs.
William Crane and family of Bell
flower Calif., are spending two
weeks at the home of Mrs. Crane's
brother and sister-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Wesley Toppings, and
family at Melrose. The group
spent Sunday at Winchester Bay.

Corvallis last week attending an
extension secretary's conference
on the college campus. She is em
ployed as secretary in the office
of Roland Parker, Douglas County
