of The Mother Church, The First
Church of Christ, scientist, in Bos
ton. Mass., at the annual meeting
of The Mother Church, attended by

parts of the world.

Thomas H. Glover, 78, Spanish
American War veteran, died June
6 at the Roseburg Veterans Hos
pital. He was born Oct. 12. 1875
in Whiteson. Ore., and had lived
his entire life in Oregon. He was
a resident of Amity at the time
of his death.
He is survived bv his half-sisler,
Mrs. Beatrice Martin. McCoy, Ore.
Funeral services will be held in
Amity and interment will he in
the Amity Cemetery. The Chapel
of the Roses. Roseburg Funeral

Wet Weather
Hits Continent

Windy and wet weather hit the
mid-continent again Tuesday.
The vigorous storm center that
moved northward through parts of
Minnesota and the uaxotas Mon
day waa north of the border Tues
day but it continued to give strong
westerly winds to North Dakota.
Gusts to near 50 m.p.h. hit Minot,
N D.. accompanied by some rain.
However, rain had ended in most
nf th northern Dtains.
It was mild and skies were clear
in the southeast quarter of the
country. There were scauerej
showers along the East Coast,
mainly in sections of New Eng
land. Other wet soots were in ex
treme Northern California and
Western Oregon, extending into the
Northern and central Kocxies.

Originator Dies
SAN ANTONIO, Tex. I Maury
Maverick, champion of the under
dog, enemy of gobblydegook and
zealous Democrat, is dead.
The 58-year-old former New Deal
congresman and stormy mayor of
San Antonio died Monday after
10 days in a hospital for a heart
ailment. He left mournen on each
side of every political fence.
Sheriff Owen Kilday, whose
brother Paul defeated Maverick
for Congress, said: "We were bit
ter political enemies but good per.
sonal friends. He did an awful lot
for San Antonio."

First Hydrogen Bomb
Showing; Held Monday
First showing of the Federal Civ
il Defense Administration's film,
"Operation Ivy," was held Mon
day afternoon to county CD offi
cials in the courthouse. The film
was taken on the scene in Novem
ber, 1952 when the first hydrogen
bomb was detonated.
Other showings are set in the

eral of the servic clubs. It was
run last night in Oakland.

Long-time Roseburg
Resident Succumbs
Mrs. Emma E. Weichlein, resl
dent of Roseburg for more than
50 years, died at Riversdale Sani
tarium Monday following a pro
longed period of illness.
Surviving are two sons, Frank
L. Weichlein, Eugene, and William
E. Weichlein, Antioch, Calif.
The body has been removed to
Long and Orr Mortuary. Funeral
arrangements will be announced
later.
